  • Week beginning 20th May 2019

    Sun 19 May 2019
Well done to our Year 6 children who have had a challenging week taking their KS2 SATs. They have all worked incredibly hard and have certainly earned a restful weekend break! Our Year 2 children are also working really hard as they continue to complete their KS1 SATs. These will be completed by Friday next week and we are extremely proud of them too.

In our last week before the half term break, here is what’s coming up:
*On Monday, parents of children in Years 5 and on Tuesday parents of children in Year 6 are invited in to preview the Sex and Relationship Education DVD that we will shortly be showing your children. This is not essential for you to attend this meeting although some parents welcome the opportunity to do this to prepare them for any follow up questions they may receive as a result. This will take place in the Y5/Y6 classrooms.
*Good luck to our boys Kwik cricket team who are competing in a tournament on Tuesday afternoon. We wish them the best of luck!
*On Wednesday, the children in Rainforest are leading their class assembly to parents. If your child is in this class, please join us in the hall for a 9:15 start. We look forward to seeing you there. We are sure they will wow their audience in their first ever class assembly.
*Just a reminder that on Thursday, our school is closed due to the fact we are being used as a polling station for the European Parliamentary Elections.  As this involves allowing members of the public into our school unsupervised we have no option but to close to ensure the children are appropriately safeguarded. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
*On Friday, we break up for the half term break at normal time. We wish you all a restful week off and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 3rd of June, when our Year 6 children head off on their residential journey to The Isle of Wight.

The PTA’s Fathers’ Day gift room will be running once more with thanks to our PTA for organising this event. Tickets will be available for purchase as of Monday morning from the PTA website. This will enable children to visit the breakfast club room at some point between the 11th and 14th June to choose a present and wrap it up to surprise their fathers with on Father’s Day. We shall also be holding a Father’s Day breakfast on Monday 17th June so please pop this date in your diaries. Due to the restrictions on space in the hall, we can only accommodate one adult per child, thank you for your understanding.

Please find attached information about a forthcoming ‘bike swap’ that may be of interest to some parents. If you have old bikes that you wish to sell or you need to upgrade to the next size for your child this could be useful for you.

Finally, we are delighted to tell you that we are taking part in Living Streets ‘Walk to School Week’ from 20th – 24th May 2019.  This year, to celebrate ‘Living Streets’ 90th anniversary, the challenge will get to the heart of walking and how it can benefit the whole community as well as improve individual wellbeing. The theme will take pupils on a special walking journey re-tracing the steps of the charities greatest achievements over the course of the last 90 years. We handed out the challenge packs on Friday 17th May. Even if you are unable to walk all of the way to school, we are encouraging everyone to park 5-10 minutes away from the school so that they can walk the remainder of their journey. Also on Friday 24th May we are having a ‘happy shoes’ day where the children can wear the shoes that make them happy, to school.  We would love for you all to get involved. For more information on Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking visit www.livingstreets.org.uk

We hope you all had a great weekend.
  • Week beginning 13th May

    Fri 10 May 2019
Well done to the children in class one who have led an excellent class assembly this week on Minibeasts.

We welcome home our Year 5 children today who have had a fantastic time in Wales on their first residential school trip. Thank you to Rock UK for the wonderful experiences that have been offered to our children and the staff who have supported this educational visit.

We would like to say a huge well done to the children in Year 2 who have made a great start to their SATs. We are really proud of how hard they have been working, their attitudes and determination. These tests continue to the end of the month. Keep up the great work Year 2!

    Coming up next week...

This week marks the start of Year 6 SATs week. We would like to start this week's bulletin by letting our school community know how proud we are of these children who have worked so hard all year to ensure that they are ready for these tests. We pride ourselves on knowing our children well and we know that in our school our children have a huge range of skills and talents that these tests are not capable of measuring including brilliant artists, sports people, diplomats, musicians, poets, scientists and many, many more! The children should enter these tests with confidence and self-belief as we think each and every one of them are amazing!

The tests will all be taken in the morning, so please ensure your child has had a good night's sleep, a filling nutritious breakfast and arrive in school on time.

The schedule for the SATs are as follows:

Monday: English Grammar Punctuation and Spelling Papers 1&2
    Tuesday: Reading
    Wednesday: Maths Paper 1 &2
    Thursday: Maths Paper 3
    Friday: No tests.

Please can we ask parents to keep a watchful eye on younger siblings at the end of the day and keep them away from classroom windows to avoid disturbing children in their lessons. Thank you

Reception parents will receive details of The Child Health Screening Programme in your child's bookbag today. If you are happy for your child to be seen and have their vision checked you do not need to do anything.

School Hearing Test take place for Year 1 on 18th & 19th June, a letter has been sent home via your child's bookbag. Please complete the consent form and return to the office as soon as possible. If you do not complete this form, your child will not be included.

Finally, we would like to give a warm welcome to all of the parents/carers and children who will be joining our September 2019 Cohort. You will soon be receiving a letter with details of your child's admission to school. To give you some advance notice that there will be a welcome meeting to parents on the 20th June at 6:00pm and a picnic for your children on the 9th July. We look forward to getting to know you and your children next year.

    Have a great weekend.

  • Week Beginning 6th May

    Fri 03 May 2019
Well done to class 8 and class 2 who both led excellent class assemblies this week, letting us know what they have been learning about the Egyptians and Animals and their Habitats.

Today our children all participated in the sponsored sporting activities with Team GB athlete Luke Lennon Ford. For those who wish to, there is still time to send in any sponsorship money. 40% of the money raised goes to Sports for England and 60% goes to the school to be spent on PE equipment for your children. In total, so far, the children have raised £900 which is amazing so a huge thank you to all of those who collected sponsorship money.

Today marks the end of our Maths Week where the children have been participating in additional, exciting maths activities. As part of this week the school council have been leading a project called `Make your money grow' which is inspired by the virgin https://make-5-grow.co.uk/ project which is a fun, free enterprise programme which engages children in achieving core national curriculum skills through setting up and running a business. All classes have been given £10 to invest in a business opportunity. The aim is to see if they can grow their £10 to make profit which they can spend on resources for their classrooms. You may receive info on your classes business in the next few weeks. Well done to our school council for driving this initiative to ensure we teach our children about financial stability and economic well-being.

Tonight at 6pm we hold our `Hayes's Got Talent' competition. Good luck to all of the performers taking part. We wish them the best of luck and can't wait to see them shine! Thank you to the PTA particularly Mrs Raftery and Mrs Foyle for the many hours they have put in to organise this event. Please be advised that this is a ticketed event and no entry will be permitted to those without a ticket.

    Coming up next week...

Monday 6th is a Bank Holiday so school will be closed.

On Wednesday 8th May it is Class One assembly. If your child is in this class we would love for you to join us for a 9:15 start in the hall.

Also on Wednesday, our Year 5 children head out on their residential journey to Wales where we are sure they will be excellent ambassadors for our school. They will return to school on Friday. Whilst they are away we will keep you updated with text messages, and photos that we will tweet. We are very grateful to all of the staff who have agreed to work around the clock for these 3 days to make this possible for your children. We are sure they will have an amazing time and gain memories which will last a lifetime! As many of you may be aware our Year 5 trip is happening later than it normally would this year due to unforeseen circumstances which has resulted in a change of venue which has some additional costs. Rock UK have very generously agreed to part fund this for us. To help make up some of this shortfall the children in Year 5 are running a cake sale during school hours on Tuesday 7th May for all children. Cakes will be sold for 50p each (maximum 1 per person).

At 5pm on Wednesday we are holding a parent meeting for Year 6 parents about the forthcoming Isle of Wight Residential. This should last no more than 30 minutes and will provide you with important information and offer you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Finally, just a reminder that our Year 2 children will be sitting SATs papers throughout the month of May. Please avoid any holidays or days off (unless due to ill health) and ensure the children have had a good night's sleep, a hearty breakfast and arrive in school on time. Thank you.

We thank you for your ongoing support and wish you a lovely (extended!) weekend.
