Week beginning Monday 17th July 2023

The final week of the school year is upon us. I know we always say time flies when you are having fun but this year really does seem to have whizzed by!

Year 6 Musical: yesterday, we really enjoyed watching our Year 6 cohort in their leaver’s performance: ‘I am an 11 year old - Get Me Out Of Here!’.  It was an amazing night and we are incredibly proud of the children they have become. They were confident, funny, acted and sang fantastically – the show was outstanding. As the lyrics state: ‘how we’ve blossomed, how we’ve grown each and every day. We’re walking tall and ready for whatever comes our way. But now we are going to be leaving, got to spread our wings and fly, though we don’t want to believe it, it’s time to say goodbye!
    Some quotes from the performers:
‘An incredible performance of fun and laughter!’ (AR)
‘Amazingly all inclusive for any age!’ (AH)
    ‘Spectacular singing performances!’ (IS)
‘Great acting skills by all’. (MH)

We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did and photos will be up on the Gallery of our website very soon!

Books: your children’s learning will be coming home next week (books), please can you provide your child with a carrier bag to put their books in, thank you!

Teaching Assistant: we have a full-time vacancy for teaching assistant, starting from September. Please click this link for further details.

Goodbye: it is with much sadness that Mrs Field is leaving us at the end of this term. She has worked with us at The Hayes for the last 17 years and over this period of time she has supported many children as a 1:1, a class TA and most recently through speech and language support. We will be sad to see her go.

Here is what is coming up next week…

Funday Monday: on Monday, we are having an end of term ‘fun day’ to celebrate many things – the many achievements this year, the good OFSTED report and of course to say farewell to Miss Slade. There will be some bouncy castles in school with a rota in place to ensure that all children have a chance to bounce! We will also be holding a special gathering after school in the playground for any families (old and new) wishing to say thank you and good luck to Miss Slade. Weather permitting, there will be music and a selection of sweet treats (free of charge) so that as a community, we can come together to give a positive and uplifting farewell! Past pupils and families are also welcome to join us at this event so please do let ex-Hayes community members know. Thank you to our PTA for their help in organising this event.

Year 1: Gatton Park: on Tuesday, our Year 1 children are heading out to Gatton Park. The children will have an amazing time looking at plants with some pond dipping! Please check the letter, emailed for what to wear and bring.

Wednesday: Leavers Assembly: we invite parents and carers of children in Year 6 to join us in the school hall for the Year 6 leavers’ assembly. This event has a 10:00am start. Be sure to have your tissues at the ready as we take a journey back through the children’s 7 years at The Hayes. In the afternoon, there will be a leavers barbeque event. This part of the day is for children only.

Thursday: in celebration of Miss Slade, we will have a WHOLE SCHOOL DRESS UP DAY! As we know, Miss Slade has a love of all things fancy dress and to celebrate this, we encourage all staff and children to wear a fun fancy-dress costume of their choice. Reception children are having a pirate themed day and we encourage children in Year R to come as a pirate for this event if possible! For those children who do not enjoy dressing up as much as Miss Slade does, please can come to school wearing some brightly coloured clothing instead.
On Thursday afternoon, the children will have their end of year class parties. We ask each child to bring their own party bag with party food, for themselves. STRICTLY NO NUTS ALLOWED. The children will have already had their school lunch so they do not need copious amounts.

On Friday we break up for the summer holidays at 1:30pm. There will be no after school club on this day.

We would like to thank you all for your ongoing support this year. We have had many successes to be proud of and wish you all a happy and restful Summer holiday.
We look forward to welcoming you back on September 5th 2023 at normal time.

    Stay safe!

  • Week 10th July 2023

    Fri 07 Jul 2023

The end of another week is upon us and we hope you are reading this bulletin in the glorious sunshine!

The Hayes Photography Competition: well done to all of the entrants, superb photography, brilliant colours and shades of spring. Well done, outstanding talent. Members of the School Council and Miss Slade are pleased to announce the following winners for the Spring Photo Comp, 2023:
EYFS: Aryan, Rainforest: Ducks are favourite. ‘Lovely vastness of the land and ducks enjoying their swim! Ripples are clear, great composition!’ (School Council)
    KS1 (Y1/2): no entrants
Lower KS2 (Y3/4): Jacob (Y4): Blossoming Bluebells: ‘this photo is spring – the background being a blur is effective but it is enough that you can imagine that you are there in the moment!’
Upper KS2 (Y5/6): Amelie (Y5): Magnificent Magnolia: ‘vibrant colours in this composition. The magnolia tree is shaped a little like a heart and symbolises spring as do the dancing daffodils’.
Well done superstars, the winning photos will be on the website in due course and in the large frame by the music room!

Year 4, Gatton Park: on Monday 10th, the children in Year 4 will be heading out to Gatton Park for a fun day of den building and pond dipping linked to a previous topic about habitats. We are sure they will have a fantastic time and look forward to hearing all about it.

New Reception: on Wednesday, we will be welcoming our new reception starters for their picnic! This starts at 1:45pm and we cannot wait to see them there! Wednesday is also a pyjama day for children in class 5, a prize from a PTA event, which means that children can attend school in their PJs!

Year 6 musical: on Thursday evening, our Year 6 children will be performing their end of year show to families. We are able to extend our tickets to 3 per family but this may mean that some spectators will need to stand at the back of the hall. The children participating in the show should return to school at 5:30pm and the play should finish around 715pm.

Reports: on Friday 14th, you will receive your child’s end of year school report.  Should you wish to discuss the content of this report or have any questions, please do contact your child’s class teacher who will arrange a mutually convenient appointment to talk with you.

Leaving: it is with sadness that we announce that one of our Higher-Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA), Mrs Kioufi, is leaving The Hayes at the end of this term to pursue her passion of supporting children with special education needs. She has accepted a TA position in a secondary special needs school. We wish her all the best in this new venture, we know you are going to be great!

Goodbye! Lastly, we have been asked by many parents/carers and pupils (past and present) how/when they can say goodbye to Miss Slade. There will be a small gathering on the playground at the end of the day on Monday 17th July for those wishing to come and say farewell. So please do pop this date/time in the diary. We will be merging this day with the Fun Day to celebrate our Ofsted result/report as well. We hope to see you in the playground after school!

    Have a fantastic weekend all!

    Week beginning 3rd July
What a busy week we had last week!
Welcome to our new Reception families and children: we had a wonderful evening on Tuesday welcoming the parents of our new reception cohort into school. Roll on 12th July when we get to spend some time with the new children at our reception picnic!
Music is Magic: on Wednesday evening, we were blown away by our children’s musical talents at our Music is Magic concert.  Thank you to those who joined us for making it such a wonderful event and huge congratulations to all of the children who performed, you are superstars and so very talented! There will be photos of the event on our website, in due course. ‘I was so excited to be in the concert and I enjoyed it because it felt amazing to perform in from of all the parents! I felt very proud’ (RG, Y4)

Year 3, Butser Farm: our Year 3 children had a fantastic time at Butser Roman Farm on Thursday and the children in Class 8 wowed us with their fantastic assembly all about plastic pollution. The children taught us all about plastic going into the ocean. If creatures eat it, they can get so sick, we need to recycle and stop throwing rubbish into the sea. Come on! We can do it!
Sports Day: on Friday, we had a fantastic time at our two sports days. Congratulations to all participants but especially the green team, Johnson who won both the Junior and Infant events! The trophy will be decorated with the green ribbons for the year ahead. Well done to all children for showing great sportsmanship and encouraging one another in each event. School Fete: we had all the fun at the fair! Thank you to our incredible PTA who organised an amazing event for us all on Saturday. From live performances, bouncy castles, sponging the teachers (or Mr McEvoy and Miss Slade!), cake competitions, henna and delicious food, much fun was had by all. We look forward to confirming how much was raised as soon as possible. Thank you also to those of you who donated bottles, toys, cakes and of course, your time to make this event possible.

Here is what is coming up next week…
On Tuesday, there is a culture and diversity meeting taking place at 9am. If you wish to join, please come into school via the main office.
On Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th, there is possible strike action being taken from teachers in the National Education Union (NEU). Please arrange some back up child care as there is a possibility that some classes may be closed. As soon as we know which teachers intend to strike, we will of course let parents know and we hope to do this tomorrow.
On Thursday, we will be holding our class swaps when children will get to visit their new classes and find out their teachers for next year. We will follow these visits up with an email to let you know the staffing arrangements for the year ahead.

During the summer holiday, there is a transition week event for children transferring from Primary to Secondary. Please see the attached flyer for further information if you are interested in this. Finally, if you are planning to buy new uniform for your children for next year, you may wish to take advantage of the M&S discount (20%) which runs from the 4th July on their website (see second attachment for further details).
    Here’s to a great week!
