Sat 12 Dec 2020On Friday, the children looked wonderful in their Christmas jumpers and we would like to thank those parents who kindly donated a pound for the Save The Children charity.
It is with sadness that we must let you know that Mrs Doble will be leaving the Hayes on the 9th of January. She has secured a well-deserved promotion to assistant office manager in a new setting and whilst we will be sad to see her go, we wish her the very best of luck in her new role and thank her enormously for her contribution to The Hayes which has spanned over the last 12 years. Longer standing members of our community will remember her tremendous work as chair of the PTA, her excellent support to pupils as a TA and most recently her warm, welcoming smile as part of our admin team.
Please may we ask parents to ensure their children bring their swimming kits and towels on the correct days. We are noticing an increasing number of children failing to bring their kit to school for their swimming lesson and we ask for your support in reducing this number. Children who attend without a kit will be provided with a spare kit and will still expected to participate in their lesson. Thank you.
May we also ask you to ensure your children bring a water bottle to school to help keep them well hydrated throughout the day. We have only a limited number of disposable cups which can be used in an emergency. These are not purchased for daily distribution which is currently being requested from many pupils.
Over the course of the next week, in place of the usual termly Headteachers tea party (which we are unable to host), some of our wonderful pupils (one child in each class) will be surprised by Miss Slade for their outstanding effort/attitude this term and given a gift and certificate. Look out for the list of children’s names which will be published in the Head Teacher’s newsletter at the end of this term.
On Wednesday 16th December there will be a virtual SEND coffee morning which will start at 10am and finish at 11am. This is an informal opportunity for parents to support each other by sharing experiences and tips. All are welcome. This will be accessible via the following link:

Wednesday is also our school Christmas dinner. Children in Reception and Key stage 1 will automatically be given a Christmas dinner under the universal free school meals offer. Children in Key Stage 2 must book and pay for this on ParentPay as soon as possible, please.
On Thursday 17th the children will have a class Christmas party in the afternoon. To ensure safety for all, we will not be allowing food at these events. The children will have already had their school lunch and will hopefully have full tummies. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
On Friday next week, we will be saying farewell to Ms Spinks who has dedicated the last 20 years of her life to teaching children. She has been a wonderful teacher at The Hayes who has had an extremely positive impact on many children’s lives and we will miss her enormously. We wish her the best of luck in her new career as a train driver. Thank you Ms Spinks.
We must also make you aware that between the 18th and the 24th December, you are still required to report any confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 to the school in order for us to inform others that may have been a close contact so that they can isolate if necessary. We have been asked by the DfE to participate in contact tracing until 24th December. It is important that you let us know of any positive cases in our student community even after we break up as we have a responsibility to let others know if they may need to isolate to protect elderly or vulnerable loved ones that they may be planning to see over the festive period. If your child receives a positive test result please make sure you email Miss Slade: head@hayesprimary.croydon.sch.uk to advise of any pupil positive cases until the 24th December. We sincerely hope that this will not be necessary but do consider it to be hugely important for everybody’s safety. Thank you.
In addition, there has been an official announcement today re: a change in self-isolation period. From Monday 14th December, the isolation period for contacts will reduce from 14 to 10 days. The change to the isolation period for contacts will apply to all those who are currently self-isolating including those who commenced self-isolation before Monday. Self-isolation periods will begin on the day after exposure, a test or the start of symptoms. Please see link below:

On Friday, we break up at 1:30pm (with no after school club), we would like to thank you once more for your support this term and wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas break.

Tue 08 Dec 2020Phonics Screening Test: as we said last week, the Year 2 Phonics Screening Test starts on the 7th December. Please see last week’s bulletin (emailed to you and on the website: https://www.thehayesprimaryschool.co.uk/stream/news/full/1/-//) to re-read and also the phonics presentation by Mrs Farr: Parent Workshops | The Hayes Primary School to see a virtual presentation about how this works and what it is.
Christmas Jumper Day: on Friday (11th) we are participating in the Save the children Christmas jumper day, details of which can be seen here Christmas Jumper Day 2020 | Save the Children UK. Our children may wear a Christmas jumper to school instead of their normal Hayes jumper and those who are able to are encouraged to donate £1 to Save the Children charity. This optional contribution is on ParentPay for those who wish to donate to avoid the handling of cash in school. Thank you.
Christmas Cards: we have now had advice from the Local Authority who have confirmed we may send cards with the following provisos: we can send Christmas cards in our bubbles (classes) but they need to be still for 72 day. They also need to be sealed with either sellotape or the tab tucked in. Children can bring in their cards in the last two weeks of term from Tuesday-Friday. They will then have 72 hours to sit before they are distributed the following Monday. Deadline for handing in cards is Friday 11th December. Thank you!
COVID updates: please see our website which is updated as soon as guidance changes: News | The Hayes Primary School (secure-primarysite.net) National Covid Alert: as you will be aware, COVID-19 case numbers are rising rapidly across the whole of the UK and in other countries. As a result, the government has acted to control the spread of the virus with new tiered restrictions. We are in the area of Tier 2 which is high alert:
*you must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place;
*you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 people outside, including in a garden or a public space – this is called the ‘rule of 6’;
*businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a COVID-Secure manner, other than those which remain closed by law, such as nightclubs;
*pubs and bars must close, unless operating as restaurants. Hospitality venues can only serve alcohol with substantial meals;
*hospitality businesses selling food or drink for consumption on their premises are required to: provide table service only, in premises which sell alcohol, close between 11pm and 5am (hospitality venues in airports, ports, transport services and motorway service areas exempt), stop taking orders after 10pm;
*hospitality businesses and venues selling food and drink for consumption off premises can continue to do so after 10pm as long as this is through delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through;
*early closure (11pm) applies to casinos, cinemas, theatres, museums, bowling alleys, amusement arcades, funfairs, theme parks, adventure parks and activities, and bingo halls; *cinemas, theatres and concert halls can stay open beyond 11pm in order to conclude performances that start before 10pm;
*public attendance at outdoor and indoor events (performances and shows) is permitted, limited to whichever is lower: 50% capacity, or either 2,000 people outdoors or 1,000 people indoors;
*public attendance at spectator sport and business events can resume inside and outside, subject to social contact rules and limited to whichever is lower: 50% capacity, or either 2,000 people outdoors or 1,000 people indoors;
*organised outdoor sport, and physical activity and exercise classes can continue; *places of worship remain open but you must not socialise with people from outside of your household or support bubble while you are indoors there, unless a legal exemption applies;
*weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on numbers of attendees – 15 people can attend wedding ceremonies and receptions and 30 people can attend funeral ceremonies. Face Coverings: we have recently received emails from parents concerned about parents at drop off, talking closely to each other and without face coverings. Whereas at the moment, wearing a face covering is not mandatory, we ask that you do so at The Hayes (if you are not exempt). We have been very fortunate not to have closed any bubbles/classes due to a case of COVID and we cannot speak strongly enough that we and I am sure, you, wish this to continue. We are one of the only schools in Croydon who have not had a case. Please can we therefore remind you of the importance of following the guidance to wear masks and to put the health of yourself, our children, their parents and families at a high priority. Thank you. Safari: Winter for always having a positive attitude in all that she does and a big smile that makes us all happy.
Rainforest: Rhys for working really hard on his letter formation and always sharing facts and ideas with the class.
Class 1: Grace for her enthusiasm and improvement in her reading. Well done!
Class 2: Artie for having a positive attitude all week towards his learning.
Class 3: Oliver for producing outstanding pieces of work and being a superstar learner in all areas. He always gives 100%.
Class 4: Frank for a fantastic improvement in his phonics and writing a lovely persuasive letter. Well done.
Class 5: Isaac for showing a huge improvement in his reading.
Class 6: Sofia for working hard in Maths lessons and making good progress learning your times tables. Keep it up!
Class 7: Louie for excellent use of persuasive sentence openers in his writing and almost singlehandedly writing our class Christmas song!
Class 8: Danny for working hard to make great edits to his persuasive letter about Miss Cockroach and Mr Mouse.
Class 9: Santino, for working really hard in all his lessons.
Class 10: Calvin for providing some fascinating extra facts about the planets especially Mars.
Class 11: Rennae for putting in 100% effort into her percentages work during maths. Class 12: Millie B for working really hard to learn her X Tables. End of Term Dates: The children looked fantastic today in their festive clothes. Although you may know what your child was performing today (and you may not!), the actual surprise and gift from us all to you will arrive in your mail box next week. It is going to be exciting and will not perhaps replace the nativities or Christmas performances but it will most certainly bring a smile to your faces. Please have a good weekend and stay safe.
