    Week Beginning 29th April 2019

Welcome back to school and we hope your children have enjoyed the first four days of the summer term! We have a busy term ahead of us and lots of fun learning and enrichment activities planned.

We would like to say a huge well done to all of the children who auditioned for the upcoming school talent show. In total, 130 children put themselves forward for the show.  As we are sure you appreciate, it is not possible to put this many children through to the final event. Today the successful acts were announced in assembly and there were many excited children. The successful acts have been given a letter to take home with further information for parents.  Congratulations once more to all of the children who auditioned, including those who were not successful on this occasion, for demonstrating incredible confidence and self-belief.

Due to a Year 4 assembly taking place on Tuesday next week we have made a slight adjustment to the swimming timetable to ensure that no child misses out on their lesson. For next week only, Year 4 will swim on Monday and Year 5 will swim on Tuesday. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Here’s what’s coming up next week…

On Tuesday we invite parents and carers of children in class 8 to our assembly which the children will be leading. This begins at 9:15 in the school hall. We look forward to seeing you there.

On Wednesday the children in class 2 are leading the assembly and we invite their parents and carers into school to join us at 9:15 in the hall.

During May, the children in Year 2 will be taking their SATs tests. This will take place in small groups and will occur during the month of May.

On Thursday 2nd May school is closed for an INSET day. This means it is not open to children on this day.

The team GB 400m runner Luke Lennon-Ford will be in school on Fri May 3rd, for a day of activity with the children. If your child would like to raise sponsorship money please can send this in to the office.

Friday is also our open afternoon and we invite all parents and carers to come into school from 2:15 for an opportunity for your children to show you their learning. Once you have viewed your children’s work you are welcome to take them home. We have accidently booked in two open afternoons this term so please note that the open afternoon scheduled for the 5th July has now been cancelled. In July you will receive a written end of year report from your child’s class teacher and have the opportunity to make an appointment to discuss this if necessary afterwards.

On Friday evening, it is with great excitement that we hold our ‘Hayes’s Got Talent!’ competition. This begins at 6pm and promises to be an exciting evening where we get to see a snippet of the talent the children in our school hold.  Tickets will be available free of charge for this performance via the PTA page but will initially be offered to the families of children participating in the event. There is a maximum of 200 tickets available to ensure safety and avoid overcrowding in the hall. Once families of children participating have had the opportunity to purchase their tickets sales will be opened up to all other parents and children.

We will shortly be advertising for staff for our afterschool club. Details will be available on the Vacancies section of our school website if you know of any interested candidates with experience of working with children and leading teams please make them aware of this opportunity.

Finally, please find attached term dates and INSET days for next academic year (2019-2020). We are sending this out to you now to give you as much notice as possible.

    Have a great weekend.

Week Beginning Tuesday 23rd April 2019

Thank you to all of our wonderful children and families for another term of learning, fun and support. As we send the children home today for the Spring Break we wish you all a happy and restful holiday.

A huge congratulations to all of the children in the junior choir who performed at The Croydon Schools Music and Arts concert at Trinity School on Monday evening. They performed a highly entertaining range of songs for the audience to enjoy alongside 300 children from other Croydon schools. Well done also to Miss Slade who rehearsed the children for this event and conducted them during the evening.  It was a FANTASTIC show!

Also, a massive congratulations to both the Boys and Girls football teams who have both won their respective leagues…We are so proud of them! A big well done also to the mixed team who made it to the Primary Schools cup semi-final. Thanks to Miss Smith and to their parents for their ongoing support of these teams.

Here is what is coming up in the first week of the Summer Term…

We welcome back Mrs Farr on Tuesday who is returning from maternity leave. We are sure the children and parents in Safari class will have great fun getting to know Mrs Farr. We are delighted to have her back. Once more, we thank Mrs Duckett for the fantastic job she has done in covering this role. Mrs Duckett will continue to teach Safari class for 3 days a week.

May we please remind parents that the first day back is St Georges Day and therefore if your child attends a uniformed organisation such as Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs or Scouts, they are invited to wear their uniforms to mark this day.

May we please remind parents of children in Reception that after Easter we are beginning to improve the children’s levels of independence and therefore we politely ask that you drop your children off at the door and allow them to enter their classrooms on their own. Of course if you have any worries or concerns, please mention this to the member of staff on the door who will pass your message on to your child’s class teacher.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the auditions for the Hayes Got Talent competition will be taking place. We thank our PTA, particularly Mrs Raftery who has, once again, kindly agreed to organise this event. Those who have been successful in this process will be announced in Friday’s Achievement Assembly.

We wish good luck to the children participating in a tennis tournament on Wednesday and thank Miss Smith for organising this.

The School Council will be meeting on Thursday 25th at 12:30. If your child is their class rep, please remind them to have an early lunch on this day.

Miss Slade will be hosting her Head Teacher’s tea party on Thursday afternoon to congratulate one child from each class who has been recognised for working hard this term. Please look out for more information about these superstars coming up soon!

On Friday 26th April, Year 2 have a trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum. We are sure they will have a wonderful time and learn many facts about this inspirational person.

On Friday Evening the PTA will be holding a Film Club for your children to attend. They will be showing ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’. This starts straight after school on Friday and finishes at 5:00. If your child wishes to attend, please purchase a ticket for them via the PTA events page. The price of the ticket also includes a drink and a snack.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that from this month through to July the Woodcote Green Fingered Kids scheme is back. This means for every £10 spent at Woodcote Green they will donate a 25p voucher for you to give to The Hayes to spend on anything in-store. Please pop the vouchers into the school office.

Have a great holiday, see you after the break.

  • Week Beginning 1st April 2019

    Mon 01 Apr 2019

Week Beginning Monday 1st April 2019

Thank you to all the Mummies who joined us for breakfast this morning! We hope you had a wonderful Mothering Sunday and enjoyed some additional special time with your children this morning. Our huge thanks goes to St Barnabas Church for providing our lovely breakfast!

David from the CSSP (Croydon Schools Sports Partnership) will be in school working with the children in Year 4 on their gymnastics skills this morning.

This evening, at 7pm, our Junior Choir will be performing at the Croydon Schools Music Festival concert at Trinity School. After school they should make their way to the music room. At 3:30 they will travel with Mrs Olley, Mrs Field and Mrs Yates by Minibus to Trinity for the final rehearsal which begins at 4:30pm. The children should bring with them a packed lunch and a small drink.  They may also like to bring a book to read as there could be some waiting around between the final rehearsal and the start of the concert. The concert is due to finish at approximately 8:20 where the children can be collected from a member of school staff. Please may I remind you that the children should be wearing the bottom half of their school uniform and a plain, brightly coloured T-shirt for the show (they can bring this with them in a bag to change into after school).

David from the CSSP will also be working with children in Year 2 on team games on Tuesday 2nd April.

On Thursday 4th April our Year 3 children will be taking part in a huge national portrait in collaboration with the Tate Museum. If you would like more information you can see more here: https://www.tateyear3project.org.uk/. Thank you to all of those parents who have provided consent for this exciting opportunity.

Also on Thursday, our Reception Children are heading out on their first school trip to Morden Hall Park. You will have already received a letter outlining further information about this visit. We hope they have a wonderful day and look forward to hearing all about it. Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to help out on this trip. We are really grateful.

We bid Farewell to Mrs Richardson, our creative dance teacher who has, after many years at The Hayes, is sadly retiring. We thank her for all that she has done for the school during her time with us and wish her all the best for her future.

On Thursday we are holding our annual egg rolling heats. If your child would like to participate, please remind them to bring in a HARD BOILED egg for this purpose. For our families in Reception who may be unaware of this tradition, it is a game we play with the children at the end of the spring term where, one at a time, they roll a hardboiled egg down some guttering. The child whose egg travels the furthest distance goes through to the final which will take place on Friday, with prizes for the winners!

On Friday we break up for the Easter holidays at normal time. We thank you for your ongoing support this term and wish you a restful 2 week break. We look forward to welcoming you back to school for the start of the summer term on Tuesday 23rd of April which also happens to be St. George’s Day. For this reason, if your child participates in a uniformed organisation such as Rainbows, Brownies, Cubs or Scouts for example, we invite them to wear their uniform for this organisation to school on the first day back.

After the break we will be starting our audition process for the ‘Hayes Got Talent!’ competition. Your child may wish to prepare their act during the break in readiness for this. Application forms for children wishing to audition are available on the carousel in the school office.

After Easter we are delighted to be welcoming back Mrs Farr who has been away from school for the past year on Maternity leave. Mrs Farr works as a job share with Mrs Duckett in Safari class. We thank Mrs Duckett for the amazing work she has done covering this role in Mrs Farr’s absence and look forward to having Mrs Farr back as part of the Early Years team. Mrs Farr will work 2 days a week and Mrs Duckett will work for three days.

Finally, after Easter we begin to encourage independence in our youngest children in Reception and ask that parents support us in doing so by allowing your children to come into school on their own in the mornings. Please do not bring them in to the class room. This is to help them prepare for Year One. Of course if there is a problem or a concern, please speak to the member of staff on the door who will pass on your message to your child’s class teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
