  • Week Beginning 29th June 2015

    Thu 25 Jun 2015

Don’t forget it is our school summer fair tomorrow, Saturday 26th June 12.00-3.00pm.

Well done to our fantastic musicians at The Hayes.  Our Year 4 children all performed so well during their SoundStart concert this week, after having only 9 months of tuition learning the clarinet, saxophone or fife.  Also well done to all those children who performed at our evening Summer music concert the week before.  I was truly impressed by the range of talent and the high levels of musical ability demonstrated by all of those who have performed.  Thank you also to our amazing team of peripatetic music staff for all of their hard work preparing the children for all of our recent musical events.

Also well done to Safari class who led their first ever assembly at school this week.  They looked fantastic dressed as animals and were wonderful storytellers and singers.

Thank you to all of those children and their parents who helped so generously with the WaterAid event last week.  As we had so many donations we continued the cake sale the following day and are pleased to say that this raised £320.74 for WaterAid.  We are delighted that this funds 160metres of pipeline.

Please remember to apply a high factor sun lotion to your child in the mornings during this warm weather.  If it is a swimming day for your child, applying a waterproof sun lotion should be adequate protection for them until they are collected at 3.00pm.

    Week Beginning 29th June 2015

On Monday, our Year 3-6 children will take part in a tennis tournament; we wish them all the best.

On Tuesday 30th June our meeting for New Reception children starting at The Hayes in September 2015 will be held in the school hall between 7.00pm- 8.00pm

On Thursday 2nd July will be having our School Games Day.  Our Infant School Sports Day starting at 9.30am (weather permitting).  We aim to finish by 12.00pm.  Please ensure that your child has their correct PE kit in school.  We welcome you to join us for this event.  Our Junior Sports Day will take place between 1.15 and 3.00pm.

On Friday 3rd July our Year 1 children are all heading off to Wakehurst Place for a day of events linked to their current learning.  We hope that the weather stays dry for them.

Also on Friday Rainforest children are leading our whole school assembly, so if your child is in Miss Schoeffer’s class and you wish to join us for this event please come to the school hall for 10.15am.

On Friday evening Mrs Butterworth is holding her Suzuki violin concert for all children who have lessons with her across the borough between 4.30-6.00pm at The Hayes.  We welcome any parents of children who attend lessons with her.

Please do come and check the lost property for any items of uniform that your child may have misplaced – there is a bit of a mountain building up!

  • Week Beginning 22nd June 2015

    Fri 19 Jun 2015

Firstly we would like to extend huge congratulations to Mrs Cook who has been awarded an MBE for her services to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We are immensely proud of her and how she has contributed to the ethos and reputation of The Hayes and fully agree that she deserves this recognition! Congratulations! We look forward to hearing about your trip to meet the Queen!

We are still actively recruiting for September so we will let you know class arrangements for next year as soon as we have this finalised.  Just to let you know the class groups will remain as they are, we will not be reshuffling any classes across the whole school.

Thank you to all of you who have helped support our WaterAid day by sending in cakes and water containers for the pupil pipeline.  This has been an enormous success and we managed to raise in excess of £150 for WaterAid.

It has come to our attention today that some younger children have not been closely supervised by their parents whilst waiting for swimming lessons, and some of the behaviour that has been reported to us is unsafe.  Please be aware of this while waiting for lessons.

This Saturday 20th  June please don’t forget our bag packing event at Tesco, Purley.

    Week Beginning 22nd June 2015

This week it is National Sports Week.  As part of this on Monday 22nd June there will be GOALS performances for all pupils by an outside theatre group.  We are not asking for a donation for this event.  At 4pm some of our boys in Key Stage 2 will be representing our school at the borough wide Athletics competition.

On Tuesday 23rd June one of our Governors Rev. Chris Thomson is visiting classes at The Hayes.  It is also a mufti day today.  The children can come to school in their own clothes in return for bringing in bags for the school fair filled with goodies such as stationery, sweets etc.  Please avoid chocolate as this tends to melt!  We would ask that these bags are decorated with ribbons, stickers etc. to make them more attractive.

At 4pm our Girls’ representatives are taking part in Croydon Athletics.

On Wednesday 24th June our Year 4 children will be performing in their Soundstart concert at 9.30am-10.00am.  Also on Wednesday 24th June we welcome the parents of Safari class to our whole school assembly at 2.30pm, as Mrs Duckett’s class will be leading with their first class assembly.

After school today we wish all of our children who are taking part in the Athletics finals the very best of luck.

On Thursday 25th it is our school open afternoon, from 2-3pm. Please do try to come in and look at your children’s learning. They are always keen to share with you and show you what they have achieved. May we politely request that you do not bring buggies or younger siblings to this event as fitting 30 children and 30 parents into our classrooms is a challenge in itself!

On Friday 26th June our Year 3 & 4 boys and girls football team are playing a 6 a side tournament against some other schools in the borough. We wish them the best of luck.

This week sees the preparation for the Summer Fair and the PTA have asked if children could bring in specific donations each day.  Please see below for the items required for each day and help in whichever way you feel you can.

Tues 23rd                   Bags (provided) filled with sweets

    Weds 24th          Biscuits/chocolates

Thurs 25th         Bottles (wine, spirits etc.)

Fri 26th               Toys, Books, Games & Plants

Our School Summer Fair is on Saturday 27th June between 12.00pm and 3.00pm.  We do hope that you are able to join us and thank you in anticipation to all those hardworking members of the PTA and staff who will be helping at this event. We are still looking for more helpers. If you are able to spare some time to support this event, please do let Mrs Doble or one of her team know.

  • Week Beginning 15th June

    Fri 12 Jun 2015

Well done to Class 6 and Miss Ward for leading our whole school assembly last Friday.  We loved hearing all the facts the children have found out about the Egyptians.

We also congratulate Omari for participating in a football team that won the South Croydon finals, and came second in the Croydon finals.  We are delighted that he will represent the School and that his team will be representing Croydon in the 2015 London Youth Games.

Please note that there was an error in the recent Head Teacher’s newsletter.  Class 8 have already performed their amazing space assembly earlier this year and are not leading another class assembly this year.

We’d also like to remind parents that children should not be remaining unsupervised on the playground before school. If you need to drop your children to school before the doors open at 8:45am, we require a letter from you stating that they have your permission to be on the playground unsupervised. We have had reports of children playing on the playdale before school and we politely ask that you remind your children that this area is out of bounds unless supervised by a staff member. Thank you for your support in this.

    Week Beginning 15th June

Our After School club started on Monday and has now been running for a week and may I congratulate the team of staff for such an excellent start.  All children are happy and settled and there is such a lovely kind, caring family atmosphere.  We are also delighted that the meals provided for our children are of such an excellent standard, offering a real balanced and filling meal for the end of the school day.  Well done to all of our After School club team for making this such a successful start.

This week our Year 1 children will be having their phonics screening at school. Please refer to the letter sent from Miss Schoeffer regarding further information on what this involves.

On Monday 15th June our Year 5 Kwik Cricket Team will play a match during the afternoon.

Cliff Harris, our school photographer, will also be in school on Tuesday 16th June taking class and sports club photographs.  Please could you ensure your child is wearing the correct full school uniform on this day and we will endeavour to ask them to smile!

On Wednesday 17th June we have a volunteer from Water Aid delivering our whole school assembly.  We welcome Roger Brown to The Hayes and thank him for his time.

Please bring in your cakes on Wednesday 17th June for tomorrow’s water aid fundraising cake sale today, thank you.  Children will collect these by the infant entrance before and after school.

On Wednesday 17th June we are hosting our summer music concert in the school hall at 6.30 pm. This is a chance for the children who have music lessons at school to demonstrate their talents.  We are really looking forward to this wonderful event.

On Thursday 18th June we are having our ‘Water Aid’ day in school in which we are inviting all children to take part in our pupil pipeline fundraising events.  Thousands of schools around the country are joining together to create the longest pipeline and to help raise funds to bring water to where it is needed around the world.  The children are allowed to wear an item of blue clothing if they wish. To take part they need to bring in a donation of cakes for the after school cake sale, which will take place from 3.00pm in the playground.

On Friday our Year 3 children are visiting the Horniman museum for the day. We hope they have a super day.

On Saturday 20th we are lucky to have an opportunity to fundraise for the school through the bag packing event at Tesco, Purley.  If your child would like to help, please sign up on the PTA events page.  Parental support is also needed between 10.00am and 4.00pm, again sign up online or e-mail hayespta@sky.com.  Also on Saturday 20th June it is the PTA Golf day at Farleigh Golf course, which promises to be an amazing day of fun, friendly competition ending with a meal and presentations.
