    Week Beginning 25th March 2019

On Monday, David from the CSSP (Croydon Schools Sports Partnership) will be teaching gymnastics to our Year 4 children and on Tuesday, team games to our Year 2 children.

Our gymnastics club are performing to parents at 8:30 in the school hall to demonstrate the skills they have been working on this term. If your child is in this club and you wish to come along and watch a 15 minute demo, please come in to the school office.

Our Mothers’ Day gift room opens on Wednesday 27th until Friday 29th. If your child would like to pick up a visit for their mother or any other important lady in their lives, a voucher can be purchased via the PTA events page.

We wish good luck to our Year 5 and 6 children who are participating in a Handball competition. Thank you to Miss Smith for supporting this event and wish the children the best of luck!

The PTA are holding their Sip and Shop Fashion show at 7:30 on Wednesday 27th. Tickets can be purchased from the PTA events page. We look forward to seeing you there and thank the PTA for organising this event.

Wednesday will also be class 11 parents’ evening from 4:30-7:30.

On Thursday Year 3 will be visiting Hobbledown Farm. The children will need a packed lunch for this trip. Please do aim to have your child in school for 8:45 so they can set off promptly after registration.

On Friday 29th March 2019 Year 5 children will be enjoying their exit point activity for our IPC unit ‘What a Wonderful World.’ As part of this we would like the children to experience food from a range of different countries. We would be grateful for donations of food to widen the children’s experience but no items that contain nuts please. Thank you in advance!

On Friday, we are hosting our SEND coffee afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00pm. The theme for this meeting is SALT (Speech and Language Support) and Mental Health. Please do come along and join us if this is a concern to you or your child.

On Monday 1st April we will be hosting our Mothers’ Day breakfast in school from 8:00am. On this day the children are invited to bring their Mum (or another important female figure) to school to join us for breakfast. You will soon be receiving communication from the school office regarding this event and we ask that you make sure you sign up to ensure we have an accurate idea of numbers in order to provide adequate catering. We will send further information in next week’s bulletin with regards to timing for each year group for this event.

Thank you to those who have sent in your collected Red Nose Day sponsorship money. We are still collecting this so please do send in any outstanding sponsorship money that you may still have at home. We are excited to tot this up and let you know the total amount raised!

Please may we remind you that earrings are not permitted to be worn on days that children have their swimming lessons. If an earring comes out in the water it could end up  in the bottom of somebody’s foot. If your child’s ears have been recently pierced and the stud can not be removed, you MUST cover their earrings with plasters for their swimming lessons please. This is to ensure the safety of both staff and children.

We have been informed that there has been a spate of burglaries in Kenley and its surrounding areas. In fact there have been more than 20 burglaries in the last 11 weeks. Crimes such as burglaries can be extremely upsetting for those involved and particularly for children who can be left feeling anxious and unsafe in their own homes. Please can we ask that we all remain vigilant in our local areas and take note of any suspicious behaviour which can be reported to the police on 101.  Thank you in your efforts to keep our communities safe.

    Have a great weekend.

Week Beginning Monday 18th March 2019

A HUGE thank you to all our children and families who have supported our RED NOSE day events this week. The children have had great fun wearing red, sporting their charity noses and participating in sponsored events. Today they have had the opportunity to put a cream pie in the face of a teacher! We are all now smelling of sour cream, totally sticky but happy to have brought joy to our children and raise (hopefully) lots of money for an extremely good cause. We will confirm the amount as soon as possible!

From Monday to Wednesday next week we have our scholastic book fair taking place between 3 and 4pm. This will be held in the ICT suite on Monday and Wednesday and in the school hall on Tuesday.

Please can you remind children in Year Four to bring in their Soundstart instruments on Tuesday as they will be participating in Soundstart assembly to the school. Where possible, please can we ensure all children are in school by 8:50? Please note, this performance is to the school, parents can see their children perform in the summer term.

There is a Handball tournament taking place on Wednesday afternoon in which some of our Year 3/4 children will be participating in. We wish them the best of luck.

We are also hosting our spring term parent/teacher meetings next week on Tuesday from 3.30-6.00pm and on Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm. You will have already received an email outlining how to sign up for your 10 minute appointment. This will go live on Saturday morning at 10:00am.

Thursday is also world poetry day. We will be celebrating this in school and would love to hear some of your children’s favourite poems! Perhaps they may like to learn a poem at home to share with their class mates? Some children will be visiting our local nursing homes to perform poetry to the elderly residents with Mrs Randall.

There is a rehearsal at Park Hill Junior school for the children participating in the Junior CSMA concert on Thursday 21st. Please ensure they have a packed lunch with them. We will text you the estimated time of arrival at Kenley station for those of you wishing to pick up from here. For children participating in this concert on the 1st April, we now have 2 tickets available per child for purchase for family members to attend to watch this performance. These have been added to your ParentPay account and cost £5.00 each. Unfortunately we are not allowed to allocate any more than 2 tickets per family due to the number of children participating in this event from across the borough and the capacity in the hall at Trinity.

On Friday 22nd our Year Four children will enjoy their school trip to the Natural History Museum to support their learning in IPC. We are sure they will have a great time and be wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Good luck also to the Year 6 children participating in the ‘It’s a Fish Out’ water safety competition on Saturday. Our thanks go to Mrs DeCruz for organising this fun event. Good luck team!

    Have a great weekend.

On Friday, we will be raising funds in many funny ways for Red Nose Day. A letter has already gone out about this, including a sponsorship form. Alternatively, this year, we have created a funding page which is secure for you to donate any fundraising money. The link for The Hayes fundraising page is: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the-hayes-primary-school

To raise money, we’re going to:

    Coming up soon….
*Monday 18th-Wednesday 20th: Book Fair from 310pm in the ICT Suite. If you are in Y6 and would like to help at this event, please email the office. Thank you.
A polite reminder, for reasons of Health and Safety, children should not wear jewellery to school.  As per our uniform statement on the school website, earrings are not permitted on swimming and PE days, but plain studs may be worn on the days your child does not take part in sport. For this reason, we recommend that parents wishing to pierce their children’s ears wait until the summer holidays. If this is unavoidable please ensure that your child wears a plaster over his or her earring on swimming days to reduce the risk of them falling out and ending up in the bottom of somebody’s foot! Thank you.

We hope you have a great rest of Sunday night.

Thank you to all those who support Ms Spinks and Class 11 cake sale especially all the children and parents who baked for this occasion. With your generosity you have managed to help raise £146 all of which will be given to Shooting Star Chase, a charity which provides support for children with life limiting conditions and their families.

    Coming up next week…
On Monday we wish our boys’ football team good luck as they take part in an away match against Beaumont. They have done brilliantly so far this season, an unbeaten record and top of the league. Fingers crossed for another success! We are proud of you boys!

We welcome a teacher training student from Roehampton University to our school on her final placement. Mrs Platjouw will be working with Miss Smith in class 4 this term.

On Monday and Tuesday, the office have an Audit which looks in detail at financial management and controls, financial planning, HR, Governance and Health and Safety. On Tuesday, the visiting farm is coming into school for our Year One children. We are sure they are in for a great day with first-hand experience of some of the animals.

On Wednesday we welcome parents of Class 7 to join us in the hall for their class assembly. This will begin at 9:15 and we look forward to seeing you there. The children participating in the junior CSMA concert will be attending an area rehearsal at Park Hill School at 130pm and will arrive back at school at approximately 4:30. If your child is involved, please ensure they have a packed lunch with them.

On Thursday we celebrate World Book Day! Your children are invited to dress up as a character from a book of their choice if they would like to. We will be celebrating in school the joy that books can bring and as always, encouraging children to read for pleasure. Look out for photos to follow after the event on our school website or Twitter. There will be a special lunch menu on this day and the office will shortly be sending out the details of this via a separate email.

    Other news/reminders:
*We have Red Noses on sale via ParentPay. Parents can make a payment of £1.25 on ParentPay and a red nose will be delivered to your child’s class in advance of red nose day for them to wear on Friday 15th March. A letter will come out early this week with details of what your child’s class will be doing for their sponsored activity. It is going to be a fun day and week. Your child can wear something red or silly on Red Nose Day (Friday 15th March), or can wear their school uniform.

*Please can we ensure that in addition to tracksuit bottoms the children have been wearing for PE in the colder wintery months, they now also have a pair of white shorts in their PE bags. This is part of our school uniform and is expected to be worn for indoor PE and outdoor PE during the upcoming warmer months. Thank you.

*There has been a request from teachers that children are reminded to bring a refillable water bottle with them to school. Hydration is very important to learning and as the weather becomes warmer in the second half of the school year we want to ensure that they have easy access to this.

Thank you for your on-going support and we hope you had a great weekend.
