  • Week beginning 25th June

    Sun 24 Jun 2018

    WB 25.6.18
We have had another busy week at The Hayes which started with Father’s Day breakfast. It was great to see so many dads attend with their children to share the most important part of the day. Thank you for coming and many thanks to The Hayes Church again (and staff) who provided the food and helped during the morning. We have a great community.

You may have noticed The Hayes Twitter pages busy this week with Tweets about the DSMF (Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation). As you know, we were lucky to have Dan’s mum, Fiona Spargo Mabbs and three of her Ambassadors come into school and deliver workshops to Y5, 6 and run a parent workshop on ‘drugs and alcohol- choices’. I am sure that you will agree, she is an incredibly inspirational woman. Many thanks to those of you who attended the workshop and who raised some money for the DSMF charity. You will see this fundraising pot on the playground (after school) and at forthcoming events – Music is Magic and the Y6 musical. We thank you in advance.

Some of our junior sportspeople competed with determination, passion and skill in the Croydon athletics competition last week, with some making it through to the semi-finals and finals on Wednesday (2nd, 5th and 6th places). Congratulations to all who took part, we are very proud of you- you are all stars. Thank you to all of the staff and parents that supported this event. Please check out the Twitter page for photos!

Two pupils from Y6 received Good Citizenship Awards on Tuesday evening for going above and beyond at school and home to support our community, children and family. These children are true citizens and ambassadors- a massive well done to these two amazing young people (again can be seen on our Twitter page).

Wednesday night was the first of our Music Is Magic concerts, this for our instrumentalists. An amazing evening full of incredibly talented musicians who could easily be students at the Royal Academy of Music- seriously impressive. Another very proud moment. Thank you to our parents who supported this event and to the teachers who have been able to get our children to a high level of skill.

On Thursday, Class 9 went to Warlingham High School for a Science workshop- the children were a credit to our school and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Many thanks to Warlingham High! Yoga classes took place for the whole school to finalise our Healthy Schools Week over Thursday and Friday, there was a lot of relaxation going on. On Friday we had the school photographer in to take pictures of the classes and groups; we look forward to seeing them.

    WB 18.6.18
HOT NEWS: ITV London Tonight will be at The Hayes tomorrow to do a short TV report on the Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation and their work in primary and secondary schools. They will be videoing our Y6s during their workshop (many thanks to 100% of our Y6 parents who have agreed to this- it was a very quick run around session on Friday when we were asked!) and they will also be filming bits of the Parent Workshop at 2:10pm in the hall. This is very exciting for The Hayes but far more exciting for the DSMF – as it gets the very clear message across to 1000s of people ‘it could happen to anyone’.

Last week: a huge well done to Y1 who completed their Phonics screening last week and to those who retook in Y2. Class 5’s assembly on Wednesday was very poignant. The children sent a very powerful message to us all as Refugee Week approaches- of their contributions and creativity, their resilience is boundless. Class 5’s wish for refugees is what we all wish: ‘All we ask is that everyone has the right to live without panic and fear and the right not to have to run away from fireballs, chemical weapon explosions or to be persecuted for their beliefs’. The class singing ‘Heal the World’ on Twitter.

Congratulations to all of the children who took part in the mini marathon event on Thursday- all were amazing and worthy CUP WINNERS!! The Hayes has been marathon champs for four years in a row now- we have such talented sportsmen/women. Many thanks to Ms Langan and Mr Smith!

Please do come to this if you can. Particularly as it will be filmed by ITV London Tonight!
