    Week Beginning 27th June 2022

Firstly, apologies for the delayed circulation of this bulletin but there is much to celebrate from the week gone by!

School Fete: our first thank you goes to our amazing PTA who organised a fantastic summer fair for us all to enjoy on Saturday. There was a fantastic community feel and so many fun events for children to participate in. After 3 years of not being able to run our fair, this weekend felt extra special and we are so grateful to all our children and families who donated items to for the hampers, raffles, stalls etc and to those who donated their time to set up, cook, run a stall, count the takings etc. Thank you thank you thank you! We look forward to sharing with you as soon as possible the takings from the event.

CSMA Performances: our amazing Infant and Junior choirs performed in the CSMA concerts at the Fairfield Halls on Monday and Tuesday evening. They were absolutely brilliant and sung their hearts out. Well done to the children who participated. We were amazed by your wonderful singing and how well you represented our school.  Thank you to the parents and carers for supporting this event. We hope you enjoyed the shows. There will be photos of the performances on our website, in due course.

Croydon Sports: last week, we also celebrated many sporting achievements at the Croydon Sports arena. All children who took, gave it their all and showed us what ‘Being the Best they can be’ looked like in action.  But we were particularly proud of the following groups and individuals who made it through to the finals: Year 6 boys long jump, Year 4 boys 75m sprint, Year 5 girls 600m and boys mixed-age relay race. All competitors were excellent ambassadors for the school. Thank you also to the parents and carers who came along to support this event, we really appreciated your help and support.

Soundstart: the children in Year 4 warmly invite their parents and carers to a concert to demonstrate their wonderful musical talents that they have been working on this year during their Soundstart lessons. The concert will take place on Tuesday 5th July in the playground at 2pm. Please do join us for this event if you have a child in Year 4.

Computing: this week we are delighted to be welcoming the 3-discovery team back into school to lead some exciting computing workshops with our children. Every class will be visited across the week and will further develop their computing skills. Our huge thanks go to 3 Discovery for collaborating with us to help make computing even more exciting for our children.
Equipment: please may we also remind parents to ensure that children come into school with the correct equipment for the day. The office staff are currently dealing with approximately 8-10 requests a day from children to phone home for forgotten instruments, football/swimming kits etc. This adds an unnecessary pressure on their work load and children are missing their lessons when they come to the office to request this. Thank you.

Netball: on Wednesday, there is a netball festival that some of our children will be participating in. We wish them the best of luck and have no doubt they will ‘be the best they can be’.

Assembly: the children in Class 4 will be recording their class assembly on Thursday and the children in Class 6 will be recording on Friday. These will be uploaded as soon as possible onto to Google Classrooms so parents and extended families can watch and enjoy.

Uniform: it is that time of year when families start thinking about ordering school uniform for September. We wanted to let you know that Marks and Spencer’s will be offering a 20% on their uniform orders from the 5th July so you may wish to hold off on placing your order until then!  The Hayes Primary School (mandsyourschooluniform.com) Please remember that back in September 2021, we said in the bulletin that from September 2022, we will be switching from white to black shorts. This came about from a plea from parents to change our uniform due to the easiness of cleaning black shorts and also ease of them! In conclusion, from September 2022, children should wear black shorts. Please also remember that school uniform should not have logos on, the link above is clear of expectations. Thank you.

Earrings and Swimming: please can we remind parents that earrings must be removed before swimming lessons. There have been a number of incidents of children’s earrings coming out in the pool. This is dangerous as they can end up in the sole of somebody’s foot. Please DO NOT send your child to school wearing earrings on their swimming day.
    Thank you.

    Have a wonderful week.

    Week beginning 20th June 2022

What a scorcher! On the hottest day of the year so far, we were delighted to welcome home our Year 6s who had the most wonderful time making memories, conquering fears and having fun on their residential at Carroty Wood. They enjoyed a bonfire, balloon fun, high ropes, the swamp, kayaking, archery, abseiling and so much more! Thank you again to the staff who made this happen and you can see photos of their time on our Twitter account. We missed them and are sure you did too.

Sports Day: thank you for all the parents who sent messages of support in relation to our decision to postpone sports day. We can now confirm that the new date for this event will be Friday 8th July and we are keeping everything crossed for some cooler weather! As Year 6 were on their residential, we had organised a separate event for them due to take place on the 28th of June. As we are rearranging this event for the whole school, we would very much like our Year 6 children to be part of the whole school event. With that in mind, we will no longer be running the Year 6 only event scheduled to take place on the 28th June but look forward to them participating with everybody else on the 8th July.  Timings for this event will be exactly the same as before, KS2 in the morning and KS1 and Early Years in the afternoon. We apologise again for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you there.

Fathers’ Day Gift Room: thank you to our PTA who, this week, have run the Fathers’ day gift room  to ensure that children had an opportunity to choose and wrap a special gift for their Dads or another important person in their life. We thank all of our Dads for the love and support that you give your children and wish you a wonderful day on Sunday.

Walk to School Week: next week is Walk to School week which has been organised by our Junior Travel Ambassadors. We are asking all children to count their steps as they walk to school and there will be a chart to record these in their classrooms each morning. We are also asking the children to look around them as they walk - and use their senses. What can they see, hear smell that they don't normally see when they travel by car? Did they see anything unusual or interesting? This will inspire a piece of art or descriptive writing in their classes during the week. The JTAs will also be launching a traffic cone competition!

Healthy Schools Week: next week is also Healthy Schools Week and the children will be focusing on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. Over the course of the week, all children will take part in a workshop to learn more about healthy food choices with a food scientist. We are excited to welcome her to our school.

Croydon Schools Music Association: on Monday, the children in the Infant choir have their final rehearsal at the Fairfield Halls ahead of their concert on Monday night. They will travel via coach to this rehearsal and will eat their packed lunch on their return. In the evening, the children should meet Mrs Yates and Mr McEvoy to the left of the Box Office (near the bar, to the right of the entrance) at 6.20pm. They should wear their usual school trousers/skirts, black shoes with a red, white or blue PLAIN T-shirt. Tickets are still on sale for this event and can be purchased from the Halls. The event should be finished by 8:15pm and parents/carers should pick up their child in the same place as drop off.

Croydon Athletics: also on Monday, some of our children have qualified to take part in the Croydon Athletics competition where they will compete against other schools in various events. Children participating should be collected from school at 2:45pm to ensure they register at Croydon Sports Arena by 3:30pm. Miss Moll will be at the venue, waiting to meet the children. We wish them all the best of luck.

Croydon Schools Music Association: on Tuesday, the children in the CSMA Junior choir will attend their final rehearsal at Fairfield Halls and will be travelling by coach. They are to bring a packed lunch that they will eat upon return to the school. On Tuesday evening, they should meet Mrs Olley and Mrs Field to the left of the Box Office (near the bar, to the right of the entrance) at 6.30pm to be seated in the choir stalls at 6:45pm. They should wear their usual school trousers/skirts, black shoes with a red, white or blue PLAIN T-shirt. Tickets are still on sale for this event and can be purchased from the Halls. The event should be finished by 9:15pm and parents/carers should pick up their child in the same place as drop off. We thank Mrs Yates for rehearsing the Infant Choir and Miss Slade and Mrs Field for directing the Junior Choir – all children sound fabulous and have worked incredibly hard to learn all of the words – well done choirs!

After School Club: please may we remind parents that there is no Afterschool club provision on Wednesday. This is to ensure that ALL staff can attend training on our new phonics scheme that will be implemented in September.

Cricket Festival: on Friday, some children from Year 5 and 6 will be participating in a Cricket Festival. We thank Miss Moll for organising this event and the Croydon athletics and wish the children the best of luck.

NSPCC Assembly: also on Friday, your children will take part in a special NSPCC assembly as part of the Speak out, Stay Safe programme. You will have already received a newsletter about this event. Please contact the school if you have any questions about this assembly.

Summer Fair: and finally… we are so excited to host our Summer Fair on Saturday 25th June. Please do come along between 12 and 3pm to support the work of our PTA who have worked tirelessly to organise this event. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to help with set up, on a stall or by donating items. We are so grateful and can’t wait to see you there!

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

    Week beginning 13th June 2022
This week, we start our bulletin with an urgent plea for volunteers for the Summer Fair, taking place on Saturday 25th June. We are so lucky at The Hayes to have a really proactive PTA who work hard to raise much needed funds for the school and bring our community together through fun events. We are delighted that, for the first time in 3 years, we will be able to hold a Summer Fair, once more. However, the PTA have had an extremely low expression of interest for people to help support this event. In order to run the Fair and staff the stalls, we need volunteers to help. Each Year group has a stall to cover. If you are able to offer even half an hour of your time, please do sign up on the doodle poll below. Without enough parental support, the Fair simply cannot run. We thank those of you who have already signed up, we are really grateful but we desperately need more helpers to make this event a success. We thank you in anticipation of your time.

Donations for the Summer Fair: next week, the PTA we will be collecting donations for the Summer Fair from in front of the Year 1 classrooms.  Please see below, for more details.

EYFS Trip to Bockett’s Farm: our children in Reception had a wonderful day at Bockett’s Farm, on Friday. They had great fun meeting and learning about the friendly animals and breeds, going on a tractor and trailer ride, watching and cheering pig racing, and having a cuddle with some baby animals, too. They were so well behaved for their first school trip and we are very proud of them. We are sure they will sleep well tonight! Thank you also to all the parents who offered to support this visit.

Year 6 Residential: on Monday, our Year 6 children head off on their residential to Carroty Wood. They are due to have a fun packed week full of adventure and activity. We are sure they will have a wonderful time and be fantastic ambassadors for the school. We are also very grateful to the staff who will be attending this trip, Mrs Sutherland, Miss Moll, Mrs Bolton, Mrs Dobson, Mrs Sinclair and Miss Slade. Without their willingness to work around the clock, opportunities like this would not be possible for our children. Whilst Miss Moll is on the residential, Class 1 will be covered by Mrs Randall (our Year 6 teacher who is not able to attend the residential on this occasion). The children are due to return back from this residential at approximately 2pm when they must be collected. Any changes to the estimated time of arrival will be communicated to you via text message. Whilst the children are away, please be sure to keep your eye on our school Twitter account for several photo updates of the children, over this time, taking part in their activities.

Hearing Assessments: children in Year 1 will have their hearing assessment in school on Tuesday or Wednesday. These assessments are conducted by the school nursing team. The results of this check are not shared with the school but if any concerns are identified, parents/carers will be contacted accordingly.

Croydon Schools Music Association: on Tuesday, CSMA choir rehearsals will take place at The Fairfield Halls.  The Infant choir will be attending in the morning and the Junior choir in the afternoon. The children will be travelling on public transport (train from Kenley to East Croydon) and return in the same way if they are in the Infant choir. Junior children should be collected from Kenley Station at 4:10pm (if on time!)  however, if your child usually attends after school club (or usually walk home), they will be able to walk back up the hill with school staff.

Multiplication Tables Check: next week, the children in Year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables Check. This is a Statutory Assessment that all children in Year 4 nationally are required to take. It tests their ability to answer times tables questions up to 12x12 with rapid recall. They will be presented with 25 questions on an iPad and will be given 6 seconds to answer each question. The children have had practice of this so they are familiar with the test format.  Schools will not have access to the children’s scores until later in the summer term.

Class Assembly: on Wednesday, Class 2 will be recording their class assembly. This will be uploaded onto Google classroom for parents and carers to see.

Fathers’ Day Gift Room: thanks to our PTA, the Fathers’ Day gift room will be back up and running from Monday to Thursday, during lunchtime. This takes place between 12-1pm in the breakfast club room. This event allows parents/ carers to purchase a ticket online, via the PTA page that enables their child/ren to come and choose a gift for their father (or another important male figure) and have support to wrap this up and bring home to give to dad on Sunday. Tickets cost £3 and should be purchased online before the event. They will be on sale until Sunday 12th June, 9pm www.thehayespta.co.uk (select Products and Events). Cash payment cannot be accepted. There is also information on the PTA Facebook page.

Clean Air Day: on Thursday 16th June, we encourage you all to walk, bike or scooter to school. Our JTAs (Junior Travel Ambassadors) will be visiting classes to talk about this day and each class will be given an activity to do to promote it.

Sports Day: on Friday, we shall be holding our school sports day (weather permitting). All children should come to school in their PE kits but are encouraged to wear an item of clothing in their team colours such as a T-shirt or a sweat band (Johnson- Green, Ashcroft- Yellow, Seacole- Blue, Lawrence- Red). The children in KS2 will take part in the morning and parents are welcome to join us to spectate this event from 9:30am. The EYFS and KS1 event will take place in the afternoon and parents are welcome to spectate from 1:30pm. When the afternoon event is over, parents/carers will be permitted to take their children (including siblings) home.

NSPCC: at The Hayes, keeping our children safe is a high priority. We are pleased to let you know that we are working in partnership with the NSPCC to deliver their ‘Speak out, Stay Safe’ programme. This consists of two separate assemblies for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The children in Years 5 and 6 will have a follow up workshop in person at the beginning of July. We will shortly be sending you a newsletter with further information.

We thank you for your ongoing support.
    Have a lovely weekend.
