  • Week beginning 30th April 2018

    Sun 29 Apr 2018

    30.4.18
Last week was Arts Week and what a great week it was. The week was dedicated to marking the centenary of the First World War (1914 to 2018) with a focus on Remembrance, education and legacy. It kicked off with dance workshops throughout the school given by a parent in EYFS – many thanks for this Trudi, you are a star! The children loved dancing to Ragtime and Zumba music (Ragtime music was popular during the WW1 period). Throughout the week, the children learned their wartime/peace songs (to name just a few: Danny Boy, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Peace Like a River, It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, etc). The art emphasis was inspired by WW1 and the children used a variety of media and skill to create murals which will be placed in perspex frames in the corridors.

During Friday’s assembly all classes shared their singing, art and learning. Photos of Arts Week can be seen on our Twitter account and will be put on our website in due course. Unfortunately on Friday, rain cried off our whole school line dancing which should have concluded our Arts Week. Apologies for not getting a text out to you, our internet went down which meant we could not communicate. The line dancing is rescheduled for Weds 2nd May and parents/carers are invited to come and join in at 2:50pm (if it is not raining!) Children can wear their cowboy/cowgirl hats and bandanas during the line dancing to get into the spirit. Please note this is not a cowboy/girl dress up day – children are to wear their school uniform to school and can change into their hat, etc before we dance.

What else did we get up to last week?

*Monday 23rd April: our Brownies, Rainbows, Guides, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts all looked fantastic in their uniforms to celebrate St Georges Day. Photos are on Twitter and will be on our website soon.
    *Tuesday 24th April:
Year 4 visited the Natural History Museum and had a great time enhancing their learning about volcanoes. The workshop was excellent and all learned something new too.

*Thursday 26th April: well done to the Year 3/4 children who took part in a red tennis tournament and came an amazing 4th place out of 9. We are all very proud of you.

*Friday 27th April: Hayes Got Talent finals and what an amazing night it was! The talent was extraordinary and ranged from magic to gymnastics; it really was a spectacular evening. Quite possibly the best HGT, all who auditioned had amazing talent and the evening was a performance of the finalists. All of the children were winners and it was fantastic to see how much confidence our youngsters have, alongside talent and passion. Well done to all!

*Category 1: Runners Up- FW and ID (Year 1) and EL, CL and EW (Year 2).
    Winner: PMP (Year 3).
*Category 2: Runners Up- BSCG (Year 6) and IB (Year 5).
    Winner: TB (Year 6).

Many thanks to all involved in enabling HGT to happen and in particular Fran Raftery who led and organised the whole event, if it was not for the time and energy she put into HGT, it would not have taken place. Thank you.
*Saturday 28th April: excellent running performances at the Cross Country event. 1st place (TH) and 4th place (HS) in Y5/6 boys and Y5/6 girls: 1st place (AK) and 2nd place (PK). Go team The Hayes, we are very proud of every single one of you!

  • Week Beginning 23rd April 2018

    Sun 22 Apr 2018

    23.4.18
Last week saw Y5’s residential to Carotty Wood. Three days full of exciting and confidence building activities from archery to the high ropes. We are all very proud of the behaviour of our children (which was impeccable) and their spirit and verve trying out the many new challenges. Despite the lack of internet reception at Carotty Wood, photos were tweeted of the three days thanks to Miss Slade who had to drive some distance to tweet them. They will be on our website over the next week and there are many collages on our Twitter account. Many thanks to the staff who accompanied our children to the camp– without their hard work and dedication the trip would not have been able to take place.

We hope you all enjoyed the open afternoon on Friday; it was great to see so many parents/carers sharing their children’s work. There are photos on Twitter and again, they will be on the website during the week.
    ___________________________________________________________________________

This week is Arts Week and as usual, our children will be taking part in excellent arts activities. The week is focused on World War One to mark the centenary of the end of the conflict. The week will be full of remembrance, education and legacy with an emphasis on the arts that people loved and enjoyed at this time. For example, children will be singing songs from the music hall, marching songs and peace songs; they will be doing collages with a link to WW1 (Monet’s lilies, remembrance, transport, etc) and the dancing will be linked to Ragtime, a dance from the era.

On Friday afternoon, the week will culminate in whole school line dancing on the playground. Parents/carers are invited to come and join in at 2:50pm. Additionally, children can wear their cowboy/cowgirl hats and bandanas to wear during the line dancing to get into the spirit. Please note, this is not a cowboy/girl dress up day – children are to wear their school uniform to school, however they can wear their hat and bandana while they line dance! Yee haa….

Monday 23rd April: St George’s Day – all uniformed organisations may wear their uniforms to school as we remember St George, England’s patron saint.

Tuesday 24th April: Y4 are visiting The Natural History Museum for their IPC topic.

Wednesday 25th April: PTA AGM: 2pm in the ICT suite.

Friday 27th April: Hayes Got Talent- we look forward to the finals at 6:30pm. This year we had more children than ever taking part in the auditions and we know the evening is going to be full of show stopping performances. Massive well dones to all children who took part in the auditions, no mean feat to do this and it takes much courage. We are proud of every single one of you and you are all winners. We look forward to seeing you all there.

We hope you are have had a fantastic weekend and see you all tomorrow.
