Healthy Schools
We are a GOLD Healthy School!
The Hayes is now a Healthy Schools Gold school- the highest award and the first time for our school. Having achieved the Healthy Schools Bronze and Silver awards (which we have retained overtime), Gold was awarded because we have progressively built on policies and practice over a period of time and enabled a sustained commitment to the health and wellbeing of our pupils.
Overtime, we have had to show how we have engaged the wider community and supported others to help children maintain a healthy weight, healthy lifestyle and wellbeing.
The Hayes Primary School is a Healthy School and has maintained the National Healthy Schools Status for the last few years, which focuses on developing:
*Physical Activity e.g. Sports day, after school clubs and festivals.
*Healthy Eating e.g. a healthy tuck shop and fruit and vegetables for EYFS and KS1.
*Emotional Health and Well-Being e.g. circle time sessions.
*Personal, Social and Health and Economic education e.g. Pupil Advocates, Rights Respecting Schools and School Council.
We want all children and young people to be healthy and achieve at school and in life. By providing opportunities at school for developing emotional and physical aspects of health this will lead to improved health, reduce health inequalities such as child obesity and other health related problems. We want all of our children to stay happy and healthy as they grow up and aim to help them make the right choices in order to do that. Through our curriculum, children learn about their health and how important it is to make healthy choices and to exercise.
Our catering team encourage children to make healthy lunch choices; all hot lunches are well-balanced and nutritionally analysed and are cooked from scratch in our school kitchen.
*We do not use any salt in our meals
*We use herbs and spices to flavour the food
*We use cocoa powder NOT real chocolate
*Where possible, we use wholemeal flour
*Fresh water is available for all children.
