    Week Beginning 12th November 2018

Thank you to all the families who supported our 60th Birthday Celebrations yesterday. The children all looked amazing in their costumes as I am sure you may have seen in the collages of photos that we tweeted! More of these will be uploaded to our website very soon. A fun day was had by all and we were delighted to welcome into assembly Mrs Olver who was the first parent who walked through the school doors when they opened 60 years ago. She was able to tell the children a little about what the school was like in the past which was really interesting!

Today we held our Remembrance Assembly. It was very moving and the children made us all proud with their singing, poetry reading and respect given throughout, particularly in the two minute silence. The assembly PowerPoint, with the children’s poetry is now online, under the Curriculum tab/Values (http://www.thehayesprimaryschool.co.uk/values/)

We welcome to our school team Miss Alford who is working as part of the admin team to provide additional capacity at this busy time of year. You may have seen her in the school office and am sure you will make her feel welcome in our school community.

You will have received an email and a hard copy of the instructions for booking a parents evening appointment using our new system. Please can we remind parents that this site goes live at 10:00am tomorrow morning.

    Coming up next week…

We launch our Anti-bullying week. On Monday children are encouraged to come to school wearing odd socks to celebrate our unique personalities and differences. The theme this year is ‘Choose Respect’.

Early parents evening is taking place on Tuesday from 3:30-6:00pm and the later parent’s evening is on Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm. We will try to ensure that we stick to our ten minute slots and would be grateful if you could endeavour to do the same, this will help the evening run smoothly for all with minimum delays.

On Wednesday the 14th of November, Class 11 will be hosting our whole school assembly. If your child is in this class and you wish to join us please come to the school hall for a 9:10 start.

On Thursday 15th David from the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership is in school to work with children in Year five in the morning to improve general fitness and football skills and on Thursday afternoon will be teaching Year 6 Rugby.

A reminder, all children from Reception to Year 5 are entitled to receive the nasal flu jab. NHS staff will be in school on the 30th November to administer this. Please may we remind you that you must consent on line prior to this date if you would like your child to be vaccinated?

Also, you will have received a proof of a Christmas card (designed by your child) in their book bags this week. If you would like to order any, payments can be made via your ParentPay account.

Thank you. Have a great weekend.

  • Week beginning 5th November 2018

    Sat 03 Nov 2018

Welcome back to school for the second half of Autumn Term. As the nights draw in and the weather turns colder we continue with a fun and exciting term of learning and hope the children have enjoyed their first week back.

Yesterday, we welcomed Mr David Butler to our school who was toured by Miss Slade and our Pupil Advocates. Mr Butler is the Director of Education and was very impressed with The Hayes - our ethos, environment, 'family-feel', behaviour of our pupils and how we celebrate achievement in Friday's assembly. He really loved our singing. There will be a little more on this in Miss Slade's HT newsletter which will come out next week.

On Monday we have a special ‘Bonfire Night menu’ for lunch time which consists of Bangers and Mashed Potatoes or Vegetarian Sausage and Mashed Potatoes served with baked beans, garden peas and gravy. This will be followed by a fruit cookie. If you are attending a fireworks display this week, please make sure you wrap up warm and stay safe.

Year 2 will be enjoying a ‘Circus Day’ on Monday to round up their IPC topic work where they will have the opportunity to develop some circus skills and have lots of fun. Look out for pictures on the website gallery soon!

If you have a child currently in Year 2, you may wish to join Mrs Olley who will be leading a parent workshop on what to expect from the KS1 SATs on Monday evening at 5pm. These are statutory assessments that all children in Year 2 are required to sit in May next year. Please do come along to the meeting if you wish to find out more about what these assessments consist of, view some sample materials and find out how you can help and support your child at home. Venue to be announced, but it will be in the school, so please do come to the foyer.

On Tuesday 6th November, children in Year One will be treated to a Toy Maker Workshop to kick start their new IPC topic. We are sure they will have a fun packed morning learning all about toys from the past and taking part in many fun activities including some role play.

On Thursday 8th November we are holding our dress up day to celebrate our 60th birthday. Children can come to school in an iconic outfit from any generation from the 1950s to the 2000s. Some examples may include a rock and roll outfit, a spice girl, a ghost buster, a favourite film star or pop star! There are so many to choose from, let your imaginations run wild! We can’t wait to see all your amazing efforts (and staff too!).

Also launching their new IPC topic, ‘Chocolate’, Year three will be taking part in a chocolate workshop on Thursday 8th November learning all about where chocolate comes from and how it is made.

On Friday, we are holding a special Remembrance Day Assembly at 10:45 in the school hall during which we will be holding a 2 minute silence. We are sure it will be a very poignant assembly in recognition of the many soldiers who tragically lost their lives at war. Unfortunately we are not able to invite parents to this event due to the restrictions in space in the school hall which is very full with our children.

As we are sure you are aware, parents’ evenings will be taking place on the 13th of November (from 3:30-6:00pm) and 15th November (from 4:00-7:00pm). To sign up for your ten minute appointment, please follow this link: www.parents-booking.co.uk/hayesprimary .This is a new sign up site which will go live on Saturday 10th at 10:00am. Shortly, you will receive a set of instructions from Mrs Doble outlining how to sign up via email.

Our Christmas Fair will be taking place this month on the 24th. If your child would be interested in meeting Santa or ice skating at this event you will be able to make a booking from Saturday morning at 10am via the following link https://www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes . The PTA will soon be writing to you with more information about this wonderful whole school event and also how you can offer your help and support.

A final reminder for parents of children in Year 4: You will have received a letter regarding the hire of your child’s Soundstart instruments. The £10 deposit is now available for you to pay on Parentpay which will enable your child to take their instrument home to practice.

    Have a wonderful weekend.
