    Week Beginning 28th January

Well done to the 19 children who took part in the sponsored swim last Saturday. In total they swam 1067 lengths which is 2667 metres and 16.7 miles…an AMAZING achievement! Thank you to all the parents who came to support this event and all those who have sponsored the children. We are also extremely proud of the children who took part in the swimming gala on Thursday. For some this was the first time that they competed and despite some nerves they all did amazingly well. Well done to all!

To help ensure the sustainability of our swimming pool, I am delighted to make parents aware that we are now hiring out our school swimming pool at the weekends to an organisation called Great Waves who are offering small group swimming lessons. This is bringing in much needed funding towards the running of the pool. However we still have 139 parents who have not made any donations at all to school swimming lessons for this year. We ask for a donation of £50 per child and this can be paid in smaller instalments if easier (This equates to less than £1.30 per lesson). If you are yet to make a donation towards school swimming please can we urge you to consider doing so. We thank those of you who have already made your swimming donation. Swimming is an important life skill which we are proud to have on offer to all children at The Hayes.

Thank you and well done to all the children who dressed up today to celebrate the end of our History Week. The children all looked amazing and we hope they enjoyed their week of learning all about local history.

This week we are looking forward to working with David from the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership who will be in school on Tuesday working with Year 1 teaching gymnastics and with Year 5 in the afternoon teaching dance. He will also be in on Thursday leading our Year 3 gymnastics lessons.

On Wednesday we are excited to launch our new maths programme called Mathletics. Mathletics is a captivating online learning space which provides children with many of the tools they need to be successful learners, both in the classroom and beyond. Representatives from Mathletics will be joining us in school to lead an assembly to all children, a staff meeting and a parent workshop. Please do come along at 2:45 to the school hall to learn more about this maths programme. We are sure the children will enjoy using it!

Friday after school is the Hayes PTA Infant fun afternoon and school disco. Tickets must be purchased in advance on line via the PTA booking page (https://www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes/index.cfm) The timings for these events are as follows:

Reception: 3:15-4:15 (will attend in school uniform)

    Year 1 and 2: 4:30-5:30

    Year 3 and 4: 5:45-6:45

    Year 5 and 6: 7:00-8:00

Please collect your children from the side entrance of the hall via the car park. A huge thank you to the PTA for organising this fun event for our children.

On Friday we also wish our football team good luck as they compete in a match against Christchurch.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

On Friday, to conclude this week, the children may attend school dressed as a figure from history if they so choose.

    Tuesday 15th January: Year 1

On Monday, the school nurse is joining us in assembly to talk to the children about the importance of brushing their teeth and general dental care. Tuesday 15th is the closing date for primary school admissions. Please ensure applications are submitted on time. Thursday 17th January is school census day and therefore there is a change of menu. This is an important day for schools because an element of our funding is set for the year based on the number of children taking up school dinners. Please do encourage your children to have a school lunch on this day. The options are attached in this email. On Friday 18th, we wish our football team good luck in their match against Christchurch. Friday is Year 6’s IPC Entry Point and dress up day: what will humans evolve to look like in the future? (Giant brains, robotic limbs, etc), good luck!

Saturday 19th January is our sponsored swim at Croydon High School for Years 3-6, letters have already gone out to those participating in this. Additionally, the link to start your sponsors is here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/the-hayes-primary-pool We will be raising funds for our pool – the general up keep and maintenance, which I am sure you can all appreciate it significant.

Also coming up is our History Week (week beginning 21.1.18) – our focus during this week is going to be our local environment. The children will be taking part in workshops provided by Kenley Aerodrome, looking at local famous people, music from the past as well as dance. We will finish our week with a dress up day on Friday 25th January when children and adults will be asked to come to school dressed as someone from History, ie: Queen Victoria, a Roman (toga), Caveman/woman, Chimney Sweep, Cleopatra, Crusader, Knight, Victorian child, Tudor child, evacuee, etc etc.

If your child has been selected for this year’s Swimming Gala taking place at Purley Pools on 24th January, you will be receiving a confirmation letter with full details of the arrangements. Please note, this is not the sponsored event on Saturday.

On Friday 1st February, the PTA will be holding their school disco. Tickets will go on sale on Monday 14th January from the following link:
