    Week beginning 30th September

It’s been another busy week here at The Hayes with the Infants enjoying a performance of The Gruffalo as part of their English work, Year 3 taking part in both a Sound workshop and a trip to Butser Ancient Farm, as well as a fantastic class assembly from Class 3. We’ve also had 3 sporting events with our footballers winning their match against Kenley 7-0 and the athletics and cross country events proving also very successful. Thank you to all members of staff and parents who have made this another great week by giving up your time to organise and/or attend!

    Coming up this week…

Today (Saturday) is our fabulous Christmas Fair which takes place between 12pm and 3pm. Please do come along if you are free as you are bound to have a brilliant time! Much planning has gone into this event and we thank the PTA under the capable command of Jo Doble who have given yet again so freely of their time to transform the school into a Christmas …

On Wednesday, some of Year 1 will be having their hearing tests in school. The rest will be tested next week. You should already have received information about this.

Year 6 are participating in a Viking Day in school on Thursday. We know you will have a great day! There is also a football match after school this day at Harris Kenley. Children need to be collected from school by 3.00pm for a 3.30pm kick-off. The match should be finished shortly after 4pm. If your child is not playing in the match, there will not be any football for him after school.

The annual CSMA Carol Concert takes place at Fairfield Halls on Friday which some of our Drama Club pupils are performing in. You will already have been advised if your child is participating and been made aware of the arrangements for this. The rest of Year 5 and 6 will be attending as the audience and will travel to East Croydon by train. Please ensure your children are in full school uniform and have a packed lunch with them for the day as they will return too late to school to have a school dinner.

Our termly open afternoon is on Friday as well between 2 and 3pm. We’d really encourage you to attend as this is a good opportunity to see the work that your child has completed in class over the Autumn Term. You are welcome to take your child home with you at the end of your visit, instead of waiting to school finishing time. However, if your child is in the Drama Club, please do not take them home!! They will be rehearsing for the Christmas Production after school until 5pm – please do note this later finishing time for the next 2 weeks.

    Have a great weekend.

    Week beginning 23rd November 2015

It was great to have 2 really positive assemblies this week, with Class 6 sharing all they have learnt about the Stone Age on Thursday in their class assembly and the whole school celebrating the work that has taken place this week in our Friendship Week. Thank you to all who have been involved in each assembly.

Our boys who participated in the Contact Rugby competition on Wednesday did exceptionally well, coming 5th overall. They had to compete against a number of private schools in this competition and played matches without any experience of playing as a team so we are immensely proud of them.

The football team played 2 matches last week: on Thursday yet another very good match was played, against Keston this time but the team were unfortunate to lose 2-1. Ms Spinks has reported that they played very well indeed.

On Friday they had a better result, winning 4-0 against New Valley. Well done to the boys that played in both matches.

    Coming up next week…

With our Christmas Fair taking place at the end of the week on Saturday, we have come to the time when we ask for your help with some contributions for the children to bring in this week. Please see the list below:

Monday:      Smellies (soap, bubble baths, shower gel, talc, perfume etc)

    Baskets / wicker trays

Tuesday:      Bottles of wine, any colour, spirits

Wednesday  Biscuits and chocolates (packets, boxes or tins)

Thursday:     Cone shaped bags filled with sweets, small toys or stationery. In return for  bringing this item in, pupils may come to school dressed in mufti (wearing what ever they like – a non-uniform day)

Friday:         Toys, books, DVDs, CDs, games, cakes (labelled clearly with type and ingredients)

All contributions will be collected from 8.30am from the fenced off area outside

Y1.  We thank you in anticipation of your support!

Individual photos are being taken on Monday of all pupils in school. If you do not wish your child’s photo to be taken, please let the school office know before school. Children should be dressed in full school uniform.

On Tuesday, some pupils from Riddlesdown will be coming in to school to lead a Sound Workshop for Year 3 pupils.

Quantum Theatre will be performing a production based on ‘The Gruffalo’ to our Key Stage 1 pupils on Tuesday. This links to the new English curriculum’s content around spelling, punctuation and grammar. We are confident the children will enjoy it; thank you to Mrs Meadows who has organised this event for the children.

Year 3 will be visiting Butser Ancient Farm on Wednesday. All details have already been sent out by letter. Due to the distance the children will be travelling, it is essential that children are at school by 8.15am latest to allow registration and final arrangements to be carried out as they will be leaving at 8.30am sharp. The Year 3 team will keep us apprised of their progress back to school at the end of the day but please do bear with us as this will be traffic dependant. We ask that you wait to hear from the office rather than contact the school otherwise the office staff will be inundated with phone calls!

If you haven’t already had a chance to look a the website of where they will be going, it’s worth visiting   http://www.butserancientfarm.co.uk/

On Thursday at 9.15am Class 3 will be doing their class assembly. We’d look forward to welcoming parents of this class to join us for this event.

There are 2 sporting events after school on Thursday. A Sportshall Athletics competition is taking place at Woodcote and there is another football match. Letters for both have already gone out and I’d like to remind parents of the football squad that there will be no football for those pupils who are not playing the match. Good luck to all those that are involved in the 2 sports’ events this week; we look forward to hearing about how you do. Thank you to all those adults who are giving up their time in some way to facilitate these activities.

On Saturday morning some pupils will be competing in a cross country event. Good luck to all of you!

We also have our Christmas Fair on Saturday from 12pm to 3pm and we are already excited! If you have some spare time on Saturday and are able to help in some way before, during or after the fair, we urge you to sign up for a slot with the class reps. This event won’t be as successful without your support and help. Thank you to those of you who have already signed up as well as the amazing PTA team with Jo Doble who have already been doing so much preparation to make the Fair a huge success.

    Week beginning 16th November 2015

It’s been a busy week at The Hayes. Thank you to all those parents who attended parents’ evening this week. Please do contact your child’s class teacher for an appointment if you were unable to make either of the days.

Congratulations must go to both the Boys’ Football team and the Tag Rugby competitors who both won their events this week. The footballers played against Oasis Byron and won 4-0 while the Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby squad won each of their games in the tournament and are through to the finals which are being played this week. Good luck to them. Thank you to all the parents and Miss Harman who gave up their time to enable these events to take place.

Thank you also to Jo Doble and the rest of the PTA who planned and hosted another very successful Shopping Evening. We look forward to the next Christmas Event, the Christmas Fair!

We have received a lot of positive feedback about the signs that are on display outside the school next to the road. Thank you to those of you who already park and so considerately around our school. We hope that all members of our school community will heed the signs and pay due care to the welfare of all pupils at the school. Thank you to the PTA who have funded the signs.

    Coming up next week…

Friendship week launches on Monday with a special assembly. Children will be working in mixed age classes for a session on Wednesday on learning opportunities that revolve around the theme of ‘Shout it out!’, the national theme for Friendship Week. We look forward to seeing what they have learnt in our whole school assembly on Friday.

On Tuesday, the Year 5 and 6 tag-rugby players will be competing in the finals of their competition after their success in the round last week. There will be a contact rugby competition for some Year 5 and 6 pupils at Whitgift School on Wednesday which takes place throughout the day.  Good luck to all of you; we know that you will do The Hayes proud!

Years 1 and 2 will be receiving immunisations on Thursday. You will have already received information about this separately if you have a child in either of these year groups. Reception and Year 6 height and weight checks take place on Friday in school.

We look forward to welcoming parents of Class 6 to their class assembly, which will take place at 9.15am on Thursday. If you are attending, please wait in the school entrance area until 9.15am as prior to this, the class will be rehearsing and setting up the hall. Thank you for your support in this.

Our football team will be playing matches at home on both Thursday (against Keston) and Friday (against New Valley) this week. Please remember that if your child is not playing this week, there will be no football team practice. Good luck to all of you playing in the 2 matches.

An advance reminder – the individual photographs of children will be taken on Monday 23rd November.

Writer of the Week names will follow on Monday, although they were celebrated in assembly today.

We are looking to increase the range of toys and equipment that we have available to the children in the playgrounds at lunchtime. If you have any old outdoor toys that you would like to donate to the school or some old toy cars (similar in size to the old matchbox cars), we would be very grateful to receive them at the office.

    Have a great weekend.

    Fri 06 Nov 2015

    Week beginning 9th November

It was a busy week this week with the Executive Chef from Caterlink visiting on Tuesday to work with Year 6 and to deliver an assembly to Years 4, 5 and 6, a Bonfire Night themed lunch on Thursday, a football match and a performance and workshop for pupils in Key Stage 2, promoting British Values. We hope that your children enjoyed the various events.

We are noticing a number of parents parking again on the yellow zigzags or the double yellow lines on the corners. We politely request that you refrain from this as it makes driving and crossing the road hazardous which has an impact on the safety of your children. Thank you for your consideration.

    Coming up this week …

On Monday the shoeboxes will be collected by the Shoebox Appeal charity to be distributed to those children who will be getting nothing else for Christmas. We would really encourage you to get involved in this worthwhile cause if you haven’t already. All shoeboxes need to be at school at the start of the day. Thank you so much to those of you who have already sent one in.

On Tuesday there is a tag rugby competition for pupils in Years 5 and 6. Good luck to all those pupils competing. Thank you in advance to those parents who are helping with lifts and Miss Harman who has organised this.

We also have our first parents’ evening on Tuesday from 3.30pm to 5pm.  We sent out a letter by email yesterday explaining the abolition of levels; please do let us know if you didn’t receive it as it contains important information for you to read before you attend your appointment with the class teacher.

Our football team play their second match on Thursday afternoon against Oasis Byron. Thanks again to those parents who have offered to help with lifts. Please remember that if your child is in the football squad but not playing in this match, there will be no football training for him. You would have already received a letter with details if your child was selected.

The second parents’ evening is taking place on Thursday from 3.30pm until 8pm. Our popular Shopping Evening that is organised by the PTA will be taking place at the same time in the school hall so please do pop along to get some Christmas Shopping in early!

On Friday Year 4 are going on a trip to Box Hill. We are sure they will have a fantastic day out!
