  • Week Beginning 1st December 2014

    Thu 27 Nov 2014

Please don’t forget that it is our Christmas Fair this Saturday 29th November at school between 12.00-3.00pm.  We are delighted that a blockbuster film star will be opening the fair and photographers from the Croydon Advertiser will be here to capture the moment!  This is no other that one of our own current pupils Kit Connor, who plays the lead child part, Tom, in ‘Get Santa’, a Warner Brothers film that opens in the UK on 5th December.  You can view Kit’s talent in the trailer of the film online.  Well done Kit, what a tremendous acting achievement, we are all so proud of you!

Please do come along to support our fair, as mentioned before there will be a lot of fun activities, ranging from a photo booth, 8 lane ‘scalextrics’, tombola, our ever popular secrets room and bumper boats for your children to participate in.  Don’t forget to book your slot with Santa through the PTA events page, www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes.  Thank you to all families who have kindly made donations towards the fair or have volunteered to help, if you still wish to bring in donations for the fair please do so tomorrow, Friday 28th November.

    Week Beginning 1st December

I can’t believe it is December already! What is coming up this week…

Our Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics team will be competing on Monday between 4pm-5.30 at Royal Russell, we wish them all the best.

During the morning on Tuesday 2nd December all of our Year 5 and 6 children will be attending this year’s CSMA Orchestral Carol Concert at the Fairfield Halls.  Some of our Year 6 drama club members are also performing in the concert.  We hope all of the children attending really enjoy the experience.

Also on Tuesday our Year 5/6 football team are playing a match at Byron Primary school after school.  At present they are still undefeated, well done and good luck to them!

On Friday 5th December it is our Open Afternoon in school between 2.00-3.00pm.  Please do try to come in to have a look at your children’s learning in their books/folders and in displays in the classroom. They are always keen to share with you and show you what they have been up to.   May we politely request that you do not bring buggies or younger siblings to this event as fitting 30 children and 30 parents into our classrooms is a challenge in itself!

We hope you enjoy the weekend.

  • Week Beginning 17th November 2014

    Thu 13 Nov 2014

Road safety awareness week begins next week, as always we encourage the children to stay safe by the roads at all times, but next week the children will be designing a shield to remind others of road safety, prizes will be awarded later.  This week all children have all had a special assembly with Sue Martin from Croydon’s Road Safety department that helped them think about how to stay safe when crossing the roads.

Also our anti bullying week began with a visiting drama performance today, all children will take part in a variety of anti-bullying activities next week, beginning with a whole school assembly on Monday.

    Week Beginning 17th November

    Things to look forward to…

On Monday our Year 1 children will all take part in a Smelly workshop, with a visiting team who will work with the Year 1 teachers to use ‘smelly’ activities to engage the children and hopefully inspire wonderful poetry.

If you have not already done so today, please remember to make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher to discuss your child’s learning and progress. Parent teacher meetings will take place on Tuesday 18th (3:30-5:00) and Thursday 20th (3:30-8:00) this week.  You can book appointments through our online booking system and if you have experienced any difficulties booking an appointment please do contact the school office who will happily book an appointment on your behalf.

On Wednesday 19th our Year 5 children are off to the Kent Life Museum for an Anglo Saxon day.  We hope that they all have a super day.

On Thursday 20th all of our Year 3 children will have a Stone-Iron age workshop visiting them at school, in which they will spend the day finding out all about life during this period in history.  We thank you immensely for your donations of £6.00 that have enabled us run this event, which we are sure will greatly enhance the children’s understanding of the past.

Also on Thursday 20th is our PTA Christmas shopping evening, held between 6.30-9.00pm.  Please do pop by if you are already here for the parents evening to see if you can support the school and do a little early Christmas shopping!

This week we have given a prize to Jodie Wyatt for her design for the listening box, which is a place in school that children can put any concerns they may have or tell us about any of their ideas.  Congratulations Jodie!

With your help we managed to collect 75 filled shoe boxes for the link to hope appeal.  They were collected yesterday and are now in the process of being transported to help make a family/elderly person who has very little a very happy this Christmas! Your kindness and generosity is much appreciated, thank you.

Lastly thank you to Mrs Spinks who has led the school in a number of events that have marked Armistice  Day.  Our poppy loom band sale raised a great deal for the poppy appeal.  Well done to Connie Harmer, Elspeth Buchanan, Hannah Sheppard and Eloise Adams.  Our local elderly community also really enjoyed an afternoon at The Hayes being entertained by our junior choir, well done to them!

    Parking

We are becoming increasingly concerned with how parents and visitors to the school are being portrayed by the way in which they park or drive outside the school. We have decided to be specific with some of the complaints and examples that we have heard about or witnessed over the last short while:

    - A parent has done a 3 point turn in the front of the school, ramping the pavement where children have been walking

    - A parent in a black SUV has repeatedly parked on the double yellow lines diagonally opposite the school in the mornings this week

    - A parent was asked by a local resident to move their car and was spoken to extremely rudely

    - We have had a request from the residents who live in the set of houses on Hayes Lane opposite the school: a section of their car park is not private but it is used by a lot of parents to turn around in, which is made a lot worse by those parents parking across their garages (which are in constant use) and on the double yellow lines on the corners of the roads.

    - A visitor to the school parked across the drive of one of the houses in Hayes Lane

We would really implore parents to be considerate in how they park and behave towards our local residents as their perception of our school will largely be based on these sort of interactions. It doesn’t give the right image of The Hayes and the kind of qualities that attract parents to our school.

Thank you for your support with this.

    Week Beginning 10th November

A huge thank you to all those families who have kindly supported the Link to Hope Shoe box appeal. We are extremely lucky that our collection date has been altered which has extended our deadline until Wednesday 12th November, so if you would like to make a shoe box this weekend there is still time to do so.  Sadly we have still not reached out target of 80 shoeboxes so would be extremely grateful for any extra donations.

On Tuesday 11th November we are delighted to welcome visitors from our local elderly community to come to watch a performance by our Junior Choir during the afternoon.  We hope that the children and their special visitors have an enjoyable afternoon.

On Thursday 13th November our Year 4 children are out visiting Boxhill all day on a Geography visit.   If your child is in Year 4 please refer to your previous letter which outlines the appropriate clothing that the children need to wear, with warm outdoor coats.

On Friday 14th November 2014 Class 3 will be leading our whole school assembly at 10.15pm.  If your child is in Miss Smallwood’s class and you wish to join us for this event please come to the school hall at 10.15am.

As part of anti bullying month all children in KS1 and KS2 will watch special anti-bullying performances.  Thank you to those parents who have already handed in their donations of £1.50.  The KS1 children will watch a ‘do’s and don’ts’ and KS2 children will watch ‘Cyberbuster.

Just a reminder to all parents that as we are a healthy school may we politely request that if it is your child’s birthday and they would like to bring something in for the class, we suggest a donation of a game for wet play/a book for their class library/healthy snack/box raisins, rather than sweets.  Thank you.

We do hope you have a lovely weekend.  If you are enjoying a firework display the children have all had an assembly this week about fireworks safety so please keep safe and enjoy!
