  • Week beginning 16th March 2020

    Fri 13 Mar 2020

What a fun packed day we have had raising money for Sports Relief! The children have all participated in many sporting activities and challenged some of the staff in various sporting activities. We thank Miss Smith and Miss Moll for the work they put into organising today’s events and the support of the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership (CSSP). We look forward to confirming how much we have raised for charity with you asap!

Here is what is coming up next week…

On Monday, the children in the junior CSMA choir will be attending their final rehearsal at The Fairfield Halls in the morning prior to the evening concert. Parents of children involved will have received a letter from Miss Slade with final arrangements. The children have been practicing really hard for this event and we are sure they will put on a fantastic show. If you have bought tickets we are sure you will have a great evening! Please collect a concert programme from Mrs Olley in the evening when you drop off your child.

Unfortunately, we are having to cancel our planned Mother’s Day breakfast on Monday 23rd March. Many of the church volunteers who help run this event are in their 70s and 80s and are opting to avoid large gatherings of people at this time. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause. We hope to have a special breakfast for our lovely mums in the near future.

On Tuesday, it is the final rehearsal in the morning for the Infant CSMA children at The Fairfield Halls ahead of their evening concert.  Parents of children involved will also have received a letter with final arrangements. They have also been practicing really hard and will no doubt be putting on a fantastic show. We wish all our performers good luck!

Book Fair will be taking place in the ICT suite on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school and on Thursday we are welcoming an inspiring visiting author called Paul Geraghty who will lead workshops for all children to talk to them about how he creates his stories and illustrations, hopefully inspiring a love of writing!  Paul has written many children’s books including, The Hunter, Slobcat, Solo and The Hoppamelean. He will be selling a selection of his books for £7.00 which he is happy to sign after school in the ICT suite. Please come in via the office.

    PTA News and Events
*The PTA mother’s day gift room is taking place next week. If your child would like to choose and wrap up a present for their mum or another special person in their lives, tickets for £3 can be purchased from the PTA events page or paid on the door. This will take place at lunchtimes in the breakfast club room from Tuesday to Friday.

*If your child would still like to audition for Hayes Got Talent event, there is still time to collect a application from the office. Closing date is Friday 20th.

*Fireworks: it is regret that the PTA have decided to postpone this event on Friday 20th March. This is because of the uncertainty around Health and Safety of the event. There is no guarantee that we will have enough volunteers and safety marshalls due to some families wishing to avoid large public events. Additionally, at this time it is difficult to estimate quantities of refreshments that would be required. There will be the opportunity to request a refund and the PTA will be in contact with you shortly. I know they are keen to reschedule this date.

    Have a great weekend.

  • Week beginning 9th March 2020

    Mon 09 Mar 2020

What a great week! Book Week has seen many wonderful book characters enter our doors on Thursday for World Book Day and a lot of reading and writing throughout the week. All costumes on Thursday were wonderful, it was fantastic to have a full hall during our assembly bursting with excited children and staff dressed in their favourite book character  – well done to all! A collage of photos can be seen on our Twitter page and will be uploaded to our website in due course.

On Friday, our boys football team and mixed football team played against Kenley Primary School. Our boys team won 1-0 and as a result won the League, it was a tough game. This is the second year in a row the boys team have won the League without losing a single game. A massive well done, we are so proud of you! Our mixed team then played and bet Kenley 11-0, an amazing score, again, so proud of you all. Well done to all involved.

*Sports Relief is back from 9-13th March, bringing the nation together to get active and raise life changing amounts of money through the power of sport. It is Game On for The Hayes who have already learned the song written for Sports Relief which we will singing throughout the week and are getting ready for sports challenges, particularly on Sports Relief Day, Friday 13th. If your child wants to raise some money on Friday, for £1 they can come to school in sports attire and all children will take part in the sports challenge in the morning. At lunchtime, they will have the opportunity to pay £1 to challenge a teacher to a task including: sprinting, hula hooping, netball shots, planking, squaring and more. Additionally, wristbands are for sale at the office for £1. Thank you!

*As you know, we are hosting our Spring Parent/Teacher Meetings on Tuesday (early) and Thursday (late). Please ensure you have booked an appointment as per the instructions sent out last week.

*On Wednesday, Y1 children will experience our visiting farm. Please look out for some animals in the Y1 outdoor area at the start of the day. The children will learn about these animals and be given a chance to handle them too!

It is with sadness that we have to inform you that our swimming teacher, Miss Alford will be leaving her post at The Hayes this term. Miss Alford has recently become engaged and will be relocating to Portsmouth where she has bought a house with her Fiancé. Whilst we will be sad to see her leave we wish her every happiness in her new ventures and thank her for her hard work teaching our children to swim. We are recruiting for a new swimming teacher and the advert is available on our website for any swimming teachers that are interested.  We would like to thank Great Waves who have kindly agreed to provide a period of cover while we seek our new swimming teacher.

Please see our holiday dates for 2020-21, including our INSETs, which is attached to the bulletin. Please put the dates into your diary. Thank you.
