    Week Beginning 2nd February 2015

This past week we have had several achievements worth celebrating.  At the Croydon Swimming Gala children from The Hayes won ‘Best Girls Team, ‘Best Boys Team’ and ‘Best Team overall’.  We send them enormous congratulations and wish those children who won their races lots of luck as they go on into the finals.  Thank you to Mrs Einecker for all of her hard work and dedication in preparing the children for this event.

Also we would like to congratulate Lida Zhu for achieving a certificate of merit at the Young Writers 2014 Creativity Award.  Well done for the creativity you demonstrated in your writing.

What is coming up next week…

On Wednesday 4th February our Year 5 and 6 children are taking part in the Croydon Schools Primary Maths challenge. We hope they enjoy their day.

On Thursday 5th February our Year5/6 netball team are competing at Riddlesdown during the afternoon. Good luck to them.

On Friday 6th February our Class 4 children are leading our whole school assembly.  If you have a child in Miss Goodwin’s class, please do come and join us in the hall for a 10.15 start.

Our Year 5/6 girls’ football team are playing in a match at Archbishop Lanfranc during Friday afternoon. We wish them the best of luck.

We warmly welcome Miss Ward to The Hayes, she is the new teacher for Class 6.

May I remind you that we are a ‘NUT FREE’ school.  Please do not send nut products into school in your child’s packed lunches as this can potentially put some children at risk who are allergic to nuts.

Please may we politely remind all parents that the car parking areas on site are for staff parking only at all times.  We have noticed an increase in cars parked in the car park that do not belong to staff. Some drivers have also been driving irresponsibly through the car park, endangering any children who are accessing the school swimming pool for after school lessons.  Please ensure your children are close by you if they are walking through this area to the pool at all times.  Please do not park on site.  Thank you.

    Week Beginning 26th January 2015

Explore learning will be working with our Year 3 and 4 children again this week, extending the children with challenging mathematics activities.

Some children will be attending the Croydon Schools swimming Gala on Thursday 29th January.  Good luck to our super swimmers that will be representing The Hayes.

On Friday 30th our Year 5/6 netball team are playing a Hi 5 tournament at Archbishop Lanfranc during the afternoon.  We wish them all the best of luck.

As the weather has become a little colder recently, please could you ensure that your contact details are up to date in case we have unexpected snowfall and have no option but to close the school.  We will, of course, always endeavour to keep the school open in the event of bad weather but as you know sometimes we have no option to close if staff are unable to get to work.  In the event of snow, please do check the school website for information about school opening times. If we are in the unfortunate position that we need to close we will also notify you by text message and e-mail.  We do have a snow buddy system set up so that in extreme weather conditions there is an additional contact that may be able to collect your child, e.g. in the event of early school closure, if you think you may have difficulties getting back from work in time.  I have attach this form onto your e-mail or there are plenty in the school office if you would like to complete one and have not done so.  Please hand these into the office.

May we remind you that during normal weather conditions, if you need your children to go home with a different adult, even if it is an adult from our school, this must be confirmed by the parent.   In the interests of child safety we won’t be allowing children to go with someone else unless we already know about this in advance.  Please let us know through a short note or a call to the office if you are delayed so that we can warn your child and reassure them.  Thank you.

Please see the attached flier on your e-mail regarding holiday clubs with Crystal Palace Football Club.

We are continuously updating our class and school libraries.  If you have any good quality texts that your children no longer read and you would be willing to donate them to school, we would be extremely grateful.  Please send these into the office or to your class teacher.

May we take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support with the children at home and towards the school and our fundraising events.

    Week Beginning 19th January 2015

Thank you to all those parents who attended the departmental meetings last night.  Additional information will be e-mailed next week or you can locate current topic webs on Fronter.

On Tuesday 20th January our Year 4 children will be enjoying a special visit from the ‘Space Dome’, which will be landing again at The Hayes! They will be learning all about space through an interactive workshop as part of their current topic.  We hope the children will enjoy finding out more about our planet Earth and our solar system, through this all day science workshop.  Their day will be filled with fun and interactive scientific learning.  We thank parents immensely for your financial contributions that have enabled this workshop event to take place for the children.

On Wednesday 21st January our Year 2 children will attend their first CSMA rehearsal at Wolsey Infants.  As a result of this our Year 1 and 2 children will be swapping their swimming times for this day, therefore Year 2 will swim in the morning and Year 1 will swim in the afternoon.

On Thursday 22nd January if your child is taking part in the Junior CSMA festival they will be attending a rehearsal at Gilbert Scott Primary school during the afternoon.  They will need to collected from there at 3.30pm.  We currently have 10 more spaces available if your child is interested in joining.  These Festivals are an annual event, organised by the Croydon Schools’ Music Association, in which a group of our children join forces with other school choirs to form a choir of over 500 children that will perform at the Fairfield Halls.  This is a wonderful opportunity for children to be part of a large choir that develops their musical knowledge, as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

On Thursday 22nd January our football team are playing an away match against Harris Kenley; we wish them the best of luck.

On Friday Class 8 will be leading our whole school assembly.  If you have a child in Miss Harman’s class and you wish to join us, please come to the school hall for 10.15am.

Caterham Cricket Club is looking for boys and girls in Years 3 to 6 to join their junior section. Indoor winter training will be on Sundays from 11th January 2015 starting at 12.15pm to 1.30pm at Caterham School Sports Centre.  They will be running sides from U9 to U11 in the 2015 cricket season plus a girls’ side.  For more details please email colts@caterhamcc.com or use the contact us link on our website www.caterhamcc.com

  • Week Beginning 12th January 2015

    Fri 09 Jan 2015

    Week Beginning Monday 12th January…

Welcome back to the new term, and wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR! The children have all settled well after the Christmas break and have enjoyed the first week back.  Here is what is coming up next week…

For one week only our Year 5 and Year 4 swimming will swap over next week.  Year 5 will be swimming on Monday 12th January and Year 4 on Tuesday 4th January. The timings on these days will not be any different.

On Tuesday 13th January our Year 2 children are having a ‘Fire of London’ day and we have suggested that they may like to come to school dressed in Stuart/Victorian style clothing to really enable them to get into role.  We are delighted to welcome the freshwater theatre company to The Hayes as our Year 2 children will take part in a special ‘Great fire of London’ workshop during the morning.

On Wednesday 14th January our Year 6 children will be visiting The Fairfield Halls Croydon, where they will watch ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed by Shakespeare for kids.  This will fit in with the Shakespeare unit they will be studying in school this term.  If you are a parent of a child in Year 6 we will see you at Kenley station between 8.40- 9.00am for a registration of the children before they leave on the train immediately after this.  Don’t forget they will need to bring in packed lunches to school on this day.

On Thursday ‘wake up fit club’ begins again before school between 8.00-8.45am, if your child is attending you will have already arranged this with Fit Clubs for school.

Also on Thursday, the canteen is offering a special menu at lunchtime for ‘Census Day’. Our school catering funding is linked to how many children take up school dinners as part of the Universal Free School Meals so we would encourage children, particularly those in Reception and Key Stage 1, to take up a school dinner for this day as funding for the next financial year will be based on this. Naturally, the greater funding we receive, the more opportunities we will be able to offer within school. The menu for the day is: Beef burger in a bun OR veggie burger in a bun, both with potato wedges OR jacket potato with tuna mayo or cheese AND crunchy coleslaw AND baked beans AND seasonal salad AND freshly baked bread AND arctic roll OR fresh fruit platter.

After school on Thursday 15th we invite parents to come to our termly departmental meetings, in which there will be an opportunity to find out about our expectations in writing and mathematics, particularly in light of the changes in the National Curriculum that came into effect from September 2014.  We will also be making suggestions outlining how you can help your child at home and we are sure that you will find these meetings helpful. The Reception, Year 1 and 2 meeting will take place at 6.00pm, Year 3 & 4 at 6.30 and Year 5&6 at 7.00pm.

We would like to take this opportunity of congratulating Jasmine Orazietti in Year 6 and Martha Goodwin in Year 5 who performed 21 times in the pantomime of Beauty and the Beast (Redhill). Well done Jasmine and Martha what a great achievement!

    Have a super weekend.
