    Week beginning 30.10.17

We have had another exciting week here at The Hayes which started with Year 1 attending The Magic Toymaker Workshop in support of their IPC topic. All of the children (and adults) thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Thank you to the PTA who arranged the Travelling Book Fair in school from Tuesday to Thursday this week). I saw many children enjoying their new books, a lovely sight to see.

On Thursday, Year 4 parents were very lucky to be treated to a Fashion Show by their children, again linked to their IPC topic ‘Fashion’. It was amazing and I am sure that all in the audience felt very proud of their children. We definitely have some budding designers and fashion models in our midst.

Thursday evening saw a Year 6 parents ‘SATS – what to expect?’ Thank you to all that attended and we hope you found the workshop informative. For those parents who were unable to attend, the information is on the school website under Parents Information /Parent Workshops.

A massive congratulations to our girls football team, quite possibly the next England ladies football squad if their recent results are anything to go by! On Friday our girls took part in a football tournament at Selsdon Primary School. They won all of their matches:

Hayes V Forestdale: 5 – 0, goal scorers were Zoe (3), Ellie and Onome.

Hayes V Selsdon: 2 – 0, goal scorers were Ellie and Onome.

Hayes V Atwood: 2 – 0, goal scorers were Zoe and Ellie.

Hayes V Gresham: 3 – 0, goal scorers Zoe were Phoebe (with an own goal).

Well done to all of the sportswomen who took part, a special thank you to Miss Langham who trains our football team and also to the parents who supported this event.

We said a very sad good bye to Mrs Flynn on Friday, the children wrote and presented flowers and she was given a wonderful send off after her 12 ½ years at The Hayes. We wish her all the very best as she spends more time with her family and know that we will see her at many future events.

    Coming up
Children come back to school on Tuesday 31st October, this is also the closing date for secondary school applications.

On Friday 3rd November our Y3 & 4 children are taking part in a rugby festival at Archbishop Lanfranc and our mixed football team have a match against Keston. Kick-off is at 3.45pm.

Have a wonderful half term, stay safe and we will see you all on 31st October.

  • Week Beginning 16.10.17

    Fri 13 Oct 2017
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 cross country team who performed brilliantly yesterday, all of the children finished with one child in the top 20. Thank you to Miss Langham and those parents who gave up their time to support the team. We look forward to being able to celebrate all of you as well as the Year 5 and 6 team who competed a couple of weeks ago in assembly when we receive your certificates.

I hope that all of the children enjoyed their PTA event this afternoon and the DISCO this evening. Thank you to the PTA and all of the helpers for giving up their time to provide our children with this experience.

Congratulations to our children who received commendation certificates today and our Hayes champs.

    Next Week
On Monday, Year 1 have their Magic Toymaker workshop.

The Travelling Book Fair will be in school from Tuesday to Thursday; this is run by the PTA.

On Thursday at 2pm, Year 4 is putting on their Fashion show to their parents.

There is a parent workshop at 5pm for Year 6 parents explaining about Year 6 SATs and what to expect.

On Friday, our girls football team are playing a tournament in Selsdon. Good luck girls!!

It is with sadness that I have to inform you that the lovely Mrs Flynn is leaving on Friday. She has been at The Hayes for 12½ years and will be a huge loss and greatly missed. During this time, Mrs Flynn has had a massive impact on improving the outcomes for many children in our school and been on many residential trips where I am sure she has had as much fun as the children! We wish her all the best in the future as she spends more time with her lucky family. We thank her for all that she has achieved and Mrs Flynn, please do come back often and visit!

Lexia classes will continue as usual after half term (before school and lunchtime) and the successor for Mrs Flynn's Teacher Assistant role will be announced as soon as references have been received.

Just a reminder that we break up for half term on Friday 20th and children come back to school on Tuesday 31st October 2017.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Week beginning 9th October 2017

Another busy week at The Hayes which started off with our Grandparents breakfast which was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to The Hayes Church who helped us with this popular event.

Our School Improvement Partner visited in the afternoon on Tuesday and was particularly impressed with how well our Reception children have settled and enjoying their learning, the children’s writing in KS1, the mathematics challenges in upper juniors and the general happy and caring ethos of our school. Good to hear! Thank you to the PTA for organising film club on Tuesday, our children really enjoyed it.

We welcomed our EYFS parents on Wednesday who found out how their children learn, we hope you found the session informative and interesting.

We have a lot to feel proud about with our sporting achievements this week: congrats to our football team who played against Elmhurst and won 3-2. Our Year 5 and 6 cross country team ran amazingly well with 3 of our girls finishing in the top 15 out of over a hundred children. Well done to all of you!

On Thursday we held a special assembly for World Teachers Day to say thank you to our teachers for all their hard work. We really do have a fabulous staff team.

Thank you for all the contributions today for our Harvest Festival. We know the donations will be gratefully received from the Purley Food Hub who have supported less fortunate local residents over the last 5 years.

    Upcoming next week

On Tuesday at 9.30am, we are holding an open morning for families whose children are due to start EYFS in September 2018. This will include a talk about us and a tour of our school. Please do come along if your child is due to start school next year.

On Thursday 12th October, Year 3 and 4 will be taking part in their cross country competition at Lloyd Park. Good luck to you all!

The Junior Disco and Infant Fun Afternoon is taking place on Friday 13th October. This is a PTA event and tickets should be booked through the PTA events page: www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes

Congratulations to all of those children who received commendation certificates today and our Hayes Champs!
