    Week Beginning 3rd March

If you have not already done so, please remember to make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher to discuss your child’s learning and progress. Parents teacher meetings will take place this week, on Wednesday 5th (3:30-5:00pm) and Thursday 6th (3:30-8:00pm).  Our new online booking system went live last Friday 28th Feb and we do hope that this made the process of booking appointments a more pleasant experience for all.  Thank you again to Lisa and Tony Barson who have developed this system for the school.  If you have experienced any difficulties booking an appointment please do contact the school office who will happily book an appointment on your behalf.

This week begins with an exciting opportunity for our gifted and talented artists in Year 2 and 5, who have been invited to attend some art workshops at Tate Britain.  On Monday they will be going to Tate Britain to take part in art workshop sessions led by artists who use the gallery for inspiration.  If your child has been invited to attend, please remember that they will need to be collected from school at 4.00pm.

We wish the football team all the best with their match on Monday.

On Wednesday 5th March the CSMA Infant rehearsals continue at the Fairfield Halls during the morning.  Therefore if your child is in the Infant choir they will not have their swimming lesson this week.

During Wednesday afternoon some of our Infant children will be attending the KS1 Gymnastics festival at St Mary’s Catholic High School.  This will give our children an opportunity to have fun and learn some new skills, developing the experience of body management, floor routine and jump/vault techniques.  If you are providing transport for this event the children will leave school at 12.30pm and be collected at the end of the event at 2.30pm.

On Friday the CSMA rehearsals continue for the Juniors at the Fairfield Halls.  Also on Friday our Quicksticks hockey teams, comprising of Year 5 and 6 children, will be competing in the Quicksticks Hockey tournament at Coulsdon College during the afternoon.  We wish them the very best of luck.  If your child is attending please don’t forget that they need to be collected from the venue at 3.00pm, unless transport has been arranged for them.

  • Week Beginning 24th February

    Thu 13 Feb 2014

As you are already aware we are closed tomorrow due to INSET, therefore I am posting you our weekly bulletin for the week after half term a day early.

    Week Beginning 24th February

    School re-opens on Monday 24th February.  Here’s what’s coming up this week…

On Wednesday 26th February the CSMA Infant rehearsals continue in the hall during the morning.

On Thursday the CSMA rehearsals continue for the Juniors in the hall.  Again may I please remind you that this rehearsal does not finish until 3.30pm.

These concerts take place at The Fairfield Halls and the tickets for these concerts at are now available at the Box office and online.  Please note that there is a maximum of 10 tickets available per child.

Just to let you know that at the weekend Mr Blundell, our Class 9 teacher will be running a half marathon in Reading, in aid of ‘Against Breast Cancer’.  If you wish to sponsor him, please send in your donation in a sealed envelope or you can follow this link to do this online - www.virginmoneygiving.com/SamBlundell .  We do have wrist bands and lapel pins available in the school office if you wish to make a donation and collect one to show your support.  We wish him the very best of luck.

  • Week Beginning 10th February

    Fri 07 Feb 2014

    Week Beginning 10th February

This week is ‘Safer Internet Week’ at The Hayes.  The Official National Safer Internet Day is actually on Tuesday 11th February, however we have decided we will be having a week to think about the important issues concerned with keeping us safe online.  All children will be bringing home some ‘e-safety homework’ to do over half term, so please watch out for this and thank you in advance for your support.

On Monday, as part of their current topic on space, Year 4 will be enjoying a special visit from the ‘Space Dome’ which will be landing in our school! We hope the children will enjoy finding out more about our planet Earth and our solar system, through this all day science workshop.  Their day will be filled with fun and interactive scientific learning.

On Wednesday the Year 5 and Year 6 children will be joining in with a ‘Pop Up Press Office’ media workshop.  John Young, who is a TV newsreader and reporter for BBC South East Today, and his pop up Newsroom will be coming into school to spend the morning working with Year 5 children and the afternoon with Year 6.  This is a unique chance for the children to see a TV newsreader in their classroom, develop their own understanding of the role news will play in their lives and find out what it's like to be a TV journalist!  This sounds like fabulous fun and I am sure will stimulate even more on-going activities in class.

We are carrying out interviews on Wednesday for a Specialist Teaching Assistant to support hearing impaired children and their families.  We look forward to hopefully reporting our new appointment soon.

The CSMA rehearsals continue in school this Wednesday afternoon for the Junior children.  Please note this rehearsal does not finish until 3.30pm.

On Thursday there is an Infants fun afternoon at school in the hall, to include games and music.  The Infants Fun Afternoon starts at 4:30pm and children will need to be collected at 5:20pm.  The Lower Junior Disco will follow at 5.30 and will finish at 6.45pm.  Finally our Upper Junior Disco will be held from 6.45 to 8.00pm.

Friday is an INSET day for staff and Governors, and consequently the school is closed to children. We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and look forward to seeing you back on Monday 24th February 2014.
