Welcome back to an exciting new half term, this week Class 2 put on their class assembly. It was fantastic and I am sure that all of the parents/carers who attended were very proud of their child’s performance. Year 5 went on their trip to Riddlesdown common in support of their IPC topic, it was cold but the children (and adults) came back smiling!

  • Week beginning 19th February 2018

    Sun 11 Feb 2018

    WB 19.2.18

Building on from the success of our BRECK workshops last week, we had Internet Safety Day on Tuesday. The children took part in a range of activities and discussions about how to stay safe whilst using the internet including appropriateness of what they should and what they should not write on various Apps or social forums. Always good to remember, once it is out there, it is there forever and the message is clear – never write something that you would not say to that person’s face. Some great discussions ensued, particularly in the upper key stages. Well done to all.

On Wednesday, Class 8 delivered their assembly to the school about the Winter Olympics. Many excellent messages given. Thank you to those of you who came. Well done children, we certainly have some aspiring actors in our midst.

Massive shout out to our girls football team: Croydon Champions! We are now the Croydon representatives in the School Games Level 3 Finals in March. Well done girls, Ms Langan and Coach Callum – proud! The girls netball team took part in the first of a 3 day tournament on Thursday- well done to all of those that took part. On Friday, the mixed football team played against Beaumont, it was a very close match and our team played with excellent spirit, determination and at times, tolerance. Well done to all – the final score was 2-1 to Beaumont.

We had an excellent Fun Day today to celebrate our good Ofsted. It was great to see our children playing games with each other and enjoying each other’s company. Perfect timing as we now sprint into the half term holidays for a much deserved rest!

Weekly School Swimming Lessons: a message from Miss De Cruz

As we are now at the mid-point of the year, the swimming groups 1 & 2 will swop over. Group 2 will swim first, going forwards for the remainder of the school year. Please ensure your children have their swimming kits each week, several are regularly forgetting kits and as already communicated, children who do not have their costume will not be able to swim. Many thanks.

Swimmers are not allowed to wear earrings or any jewellery for swimming for health and safety reasons. Please remove earrings on swimming days to save time and them getting lost. If you want your child to have her/his ears pierced, it is preferable that s/he waits till the beginning of the summer holidays. However, if it is urgent, then please tape up the ear with a plaster. If the plaster comes off, then your child will not be able to swim. Drowning Prevention Week is June 15-25th. From Monday 18th - Friday 22nd June, we will be swimming in our clothes, please bring in long sleeve tops and bottoms so the children can feel what it is like to be in the water with clothes on. We will remind you nearer the time.

Have a great half term and see you all on Monday 19th February.

  • Week Beginning 5th February 2018

    Sun 04 Feb 2018

    WB 5.2.18

I am sure it will be no surprise to hear that we have had another awe inspiring week at The Hayes.

On Thursday, our children attended BRECK workshops that raised awareness of playing safe whilst using the internet. These were age appropriate for the key stages and provoked thoughtful and poignant classroom discussions. Thank you to the many parents who attended the parent workshop, we know this was also incredibly emotional and Lorin, mother of Breck was extraordinarily inspirational. Despite the extremely sad journey she and her family have been on, she is now determined to make sure parents don’t suffer her heartache and urges parents to report suspicions of online grooming or bullying to CEOP. She is putting her sadness into good and we applaud her for this.

Please, please be aware of what your child(ren) are doing on the internet and be very mindful in particular of them gaming with people/children who they do not know. Many children in Year 5/6 put their hands up when Lorin asked them if they play online games with strangers. This may not be the case, but please, be sure of who your child(ren) are gaming with or are in contact with. Thank you. The website for BRECK is as follows: http://www.breckfoundation.org/

*The infant choir attended their first area CSMA rehearsal on Thursday.
*Thank you to the PTA for organising the school disco on Friday, a good time was had by all and the children looked amazing!
    Thank you.
*Advance notice that the Film Club which was due to take place on Monday 5th March 2018 has been cancelled due to a clash in the dairy with the CSMA Infant Choir performance at Trinity school.

    Misc:
*Ofsted: our Ofsted report is now published on Ofsted’s website so is in the public domain. This was emailed to you on Monday, but to see it again, please click on the following link which will take you to the Ofsted wesbite:
https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/101760 or click here to access a summarised version on our website: http://www.thehayesprimaryschool.co.uk/ofsted-report/

We think Sir Robin (HMi inspector) captured our school well and is testament to all of our hard work – thank you as ever for your support and thank you also to our wonderful children and amazing staff who always work so hard to give so much to our school. To celebrate our positive inspection, on Friday 9th February, we will be having a Celebration Fun Day. Children can wear mufti to school and can bring in their favourite games (Twister, cards, Pie Face, Cluedo, Guess Who, etc – not sure if I am showing my age!) to share and play with their classroom friends. Teachers will talk to the class about what games are appropriate to bring as I am sure we do not particularly want pirates and cowboys running around the school, however fun that might be! J

*New appointment: some of you may have noticed Mrs Doble working in the school office. We welcome her new appointment and wish her all the very best in her new role.

*Swimming lessons available for school aged pupils: please could you advertise swimming lessons for school aged pupils on Social Media (such as Facebook). It is hoped if you advertise to family and friends we might be able to fill spaces. This is vital in ensuring that the cost of the pool is being covered. If you could put the following, we would appreciate it: swimming lessons are available for non-swimmers, beginners and improvers on Mondays and Wednesdays after school at The Hayes. Lessons are £7.50 for 30 mins. For more information please contact Miss De Cruz on 020 8660 4863. I have just tweeted this on The Hayes Twitter account, so just retweet this if you wish! Many thanks. J

*Polite reminder: if you haven’t paid for your school swimming lessons yet, please do so via our website: http://www.thehayesprimaryschool.co.uk/swimming-payment/ We are coming to the end of our financial year (April) and it will be so amazing if we can reduce our deficit budget even further, every little really does help! Thank you. Fees are £50 per child, which works out at approximately £1.30 per lesson for every child from Reception to Year 6 to enjoy the benefits of a weekly swimming lesson. I am sure you will agree this is excellent value in comparison to the costs you would incur for private swimming lessons elsewhere which average £6.70-£9 a lesson.

    This Week:

*Monday 5th Feb: BRECK blue wristbands will be on sale during break time (£1, limited stock available) to support the very worthy cause of ‘No Tech 4 Breck’ (http://www.breckfoundation.org/no-tech-4-breck.html).

*Tuesday 6th Feb: Internet Safety Day: your child will be doing a variety of E-Safety activities during the day. Cake Sale on the playground after school to donate money towards BRECK. If you can bake/donate cakes please email admin@hayesprimary.croydon.sch.uk tomorrow, so we you know we have enough cakes to sell. Thank you!

*Wednesday 7th Feb: Class 8 Assembly (9:15am in the hall). Girls football tournament, we wish our girls good luck.
*Friday 9th February: Fun Day to celebrate our Good Ofsted (please see above for more details). It's an early Pancake Day! There will be pancakes as pudding with various toppings for school dinners, yum! League mixed football match away at Beaumont: good luck!

*Holiday: we break up on Friday 9th Feb for half term (usual time, we are not closing early), children return to school on Monday 19th Feb.

    Upcoming events:

Monday 26th Feb is the start of Book Week
