Week Beginning 5th February 2018

WB 5.2.18

I am sure it will be no surprise to hear that we have had another awe inspiring week at The Hayes.

On Thursday, our children attended BRECK workshops that raised awareness of playing safe whilst using the internet. These were age appropriate for the key stages and provoked thoughtful and poignant classroom discussions. Thank you to the many parents who attended the parent workshop, we know this was also incredibly emotional and Lorin, mother of Breck was extraordinarily inspirational. Despite the extremely sad journey she and her family have been on, she is now determined to make sure parents don’t suffer her heartache and urges parents to report suspicions of online grooming or bullying to CEOP. She is putting her sadness into good and we applaud her for this.

Please, please be aware of what your child(ren) are doing on the internet and be very mindful in particular of them gaming with people/children who they do not know. Many children in Year 5/6 put their hands up when Lorin asked them if they play online games with strangers. This may not be the case, but please, be sure of who your child(ren) are gaming with or are in contact with. Thank you. The website for BRECK is as follows: http://www.breckfoundation.org/

*The infant choir attended their first area CSMA rehearsal on Thursday.
*Thank you to the PTA for organising the school disco on Friday, a good time was had by all and the children looked amazing!
Thank you.
*Advance notice that the Film Club which was due to take place on Monday 5th March 2018 has been cancelled due to a clash in the dairy with the CSMA Infant Choir performance at Trinity school.

Misc:
*Ofsted: our Ofsted report is now published on Ofsted’s website so is in the public domain. This was emailed to you on Monday, but to see it again, please click on the following link which will take you to the Ofsted wesbite:

We think Sir Robin (HMi inspector) captured our school well and is testament to all of our hard work – thank you as ever for your support and thank you also to our wonderful children and amazing staff who always work so hard to give so much to our school. To celebrate our positive inspection, on Friday 9th February, we will be having a Celebration Fun Day. Children can wear mufti to school and can bring in their favourite games (Twister, cards, Pie Face, Cluedo, Guess Who, etc – not sure if I am showing my age!) to share and play with their classroom friends. Teachers will talk to the class about what games are appropriate to bring as I am sure we do not particularly want pirates and cowboys running around the school, however fun that might be! J

*New appointment: some of you may have noticed Mrs Doble working in the school office. We welcome her new appointment and wish her all the very best in her new role.

*Swimming lessons available for school aged pupils: please could you advertise swimming lessons for school aged pupils on Social Media (such as Facebook). It is hoped if you advertise to family and friends we might be able to fill spaces. This is vital in ensuring that the cost of the pool is being covered. If you could put the following, we would appreciate it: swimming lessons are available for non-swimmers, beginners and improvers on Mondays and Wednesdays after school at The Hayes. Lessons are £7.50 for 30 mins. For more information please contact Miss De Cruz on 020 8660 4863. I have just tweeted this on The Hayes Twitter account, so just retweet this if you wish! Many thanks. J

*Polite reminder: if you haven’t paid for your school swimming lessons yet, please do so via our website: http://www.thehayesprimaryschool.co.uk/swimming-payment/ We are coming to the end of our financial year (April) and it will be so amazing if we can reduce our deficit budget even further, every little really does help! Thank you. Fees are £50 per child, which works out at approximately £1.30 per lesson for every child from Reception to Year 6 to enjoy the benefits of a weekly swimming lesson. I am sure you will agree this is excellent value in comparison to the costs you would incur for private swimming lessons elsewhere which average £6.70-£9 a lesson.

This Week:

If you can bake/donate cakes please email admin@hayesprimary.croydon.sch.uk tomorrow, so we you know we have enough cakes to sell. Thank you!
