    Week beginning 28th June 2021
Unfortunately, due to today’s rain, we were not able to lead our planned KS2 sports day. We are looking at the diary for the remaining couple of weeks and will confirm ASAP a new date for the Infant and Junior sports days which both now need to be rescheduled.
You may or may not be aware that each year M&S (our uniform supplier) run a 20% discount on all uniform purchases towards the end of the summer term. We have just been notified that there has been a last-minute change to the M&S 20% promotion in that it has been delayed by a week and will now run across the bespoke website, in stores and on M&S.com from 6th July until 3rd August, and not from 29th June as had previously been communicated.  This is due to the fact that there has been a slight delay in some of the core trousers and skirts arriving in stores from India due to their recent lockdown. Regarding school uniform to remind you, particularly of PE kit which will be an expectation from September 2021, please visit the school website or click here

Next week swimming lessons will take place for the even number classes. Please remember your kits on the appropriate days.

Well done to the children in Year 4 who took part in a Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) this week. This is a series of 25 times table questions for which the children are given 6 seconds per question to answer. As it is an optional assessment, there is no obligation for schools to share the outcome of this screening with parents but if you would like to know your children’s score these will be available from Monday. Please email the class teacher who will share your child’s result.

Thank you to the parents who have emailed recently to give feedback on our school dinners. We acknowledge receipt of your emails and are in the process of working with Chartwells to make some changes to the current menu with effect from September. We will keep you informed on this matter.

Lastly, you will be receiving your child’s annual report on Friday 9th July. If you have any questions about the report or wish to discuss any of it in further detail, please feel free to request a follow up telephone meeting with your child’s class teacher. We have also been asked by some parents about the last day of term. We break up for the summer holidays on Friday 23rd of July at 1:30 and there will be no after school club on this day.

We thank you for your ongoing support.

Hot Weather: what glorious weather we have had this week. The children have enjoyed break times on the field and our packed lunches have even been able to enjoy some al fresco dining on our new picnic mats. With the warmer weather that we have been experiencing, please can we remind you to send your children to school with a named water bottle so they can remain hydrated throughout the day. The children have access to water coolers that they can refill their water bottles at during break and lunch times. May we also encourage you to apply a long-lasting sun cream to your child in the morning before school (staff are not permitted to apply this to children) and consider providing a named sun hat to keep them protected from the UV rays. Thank you.

New equipment: we have recently invested in new playground equipment to ensure the children have a range of fun activities at break and lunch time. These are being shared on a rota, with children having each piece of equipment for a week at a time and this will be rotated. So far, they have been enjoying the sit on scooters, table tennis tables, parachute games and giant Jenga!

Charity Work: thank you also to those of you who have donated to the domestic violence charity this week. Your kindness was very much appreciated and your donations will help those in need. We are very grateful.

Collecting Children: over the last couple of weeks, our admin team have been receiving a large number of phones call each day from parents to advise us of changes in relation to arrangements for collecting children at the end of the school day. Please can we remind all parents that, if you know that your child will be going home with somebody else, the correct procedure is to send your child to school with a note for them to hand to their class teacher which explains the alternative arrangement. The office should only be called in an emergency or unforeseeable situations when prior notice could not have been given such as a car breaking down or a cancelled train. This will eliminate the number of interruptions to lessons that are occurring when these messages are being passed on. Thank you for your support in this matter.

From the office: please inform the school office (admin@hayesprimary.croydon.sch.uk) for any medical or leave of absences with supporting evidence of the appointment. Many thanks.

Healthy Schools Week: next week, we will be celebrating Healthy Schools week, during which the children will be educated about the need for healthy diets and regular physical exercise. Can we please remind that at breaktime, children are permitted to bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable to eat, such as chopped carrots. Thank you.

Sports Day: on Friday, we will be holding our Reception and Key Stage 1 sports day in the morning. Please can all children from Reception to Year 2 come to school in their PE kits including an item in their house colours to show which team they are representing (Red= Lawrence, Yellow= Ashcroft, Green= Johnson and Blue= Seacole). If you are not sure which house your child is, please ask their class teacher. This could be a T-shirt, a sweat band, a hair band or a pair of socks for example.  Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we will not be able to invite parents to spectate this event but will upload photographs on our school website so you can share the fun albeit remotely. We will also announce the winning house in next week’s bulletin.

School Uniform: we would like to thank Alexia Dupuis, a parent and dedicated member of our PTA, who runs our pre-loved uniform sales. If you wish to purchase or donate any uniform, the email address previously used is no longer functional. However, you can contact Alexia on 07798530351 to discuss your uniform needs.

We thank you for your ongoing support and wish you a wonderful weekend.

    Weekly Bulletin
We have reached the May half term and today is the start of the one-week break. We hope you have lots of fun and exciting things planned to fill your week. The children have worked really hard this term and have made some good progress towards closing gaps and catching up on missed learning. We are very proud of them and you should be too.

Please may we remind you that if your child tests positive for COVID-19 within the first 2 days of the half-term break, you must let us know  by emailing deputy@hayesprimary.croydon.sch.uk so we can assist in the identification of close contacts and advise those who need to self-isolate. Your child may have been infectious whilst in school and we have a responsibility to notify others that they may have potentially been exposed to the virus.

We are hopeful that our swimming pool will be back up and running after the half term break and swimming lessons will begin with odd number classes. If, for any reason, this cannot go ahead we will notify you by text.

At the Hayes we are committed to supporting vulnerable members of our school community and during the last year, the rise in domestic violence has been well documented. One of our parents is working closely with Women's Aid charities across the country to support women and children suffering from domestic abuse. In this regard she is appealing for your help and support to collect much needed items for victims and their families (see attached poster). To support this endeavour, during the first week back after the half term break, we will be placing a lid free donation box outside of the school office for you to donate the requested items for the charity. This will be collected by the charity on Friday 11th June. We thank you in advance of your donation to those experiencing difficult times.

We return to school on Monday 7th of June at normal time and we look forward to seeing you then.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Have a lovely break.
