    Week beginning 5th June 2023

Well done to Safari class who led our wonderful assembly on Thursday all about the jungle. We were blown away by their confidence. All children learned their lines and delivered them clearly. We were delighted with their poetry and facts but particularly enjoyed seeing their ‘jungle boogie woogie!’ Thank you to all the parents who joined us for this event.

Geography Day: well done and thank you also to Mrs Boylan, our Geography Leader, who organised our amazing ‘Around the world in 14 classes’. The school was buzzing with excited children on Thursday, all clutching their passports, as they moved around the school to learn about different countries in the world. Thank you also to you the parents for donating food items so the children could learn about the culinary delights in different cultures (and adults), what a feast they had! Why not ask them about their new knowledge? Which was their favourite country and why?
That was the best day!'; 'Food tasting- awesome!'; 'I cannot wait to get to the next country!' Thank you to Mrs Boylan, our Geography leader- superstar!

Open Afternoon: we hope that those of you who joined us for our Open afternoon today enjoyed the opportunity to look at your children’s books and talk to them about their learning. We are proud of the children’s achievements and the progress they have made so far this year. With half a term still to go, the sky is the limit!

Happy Holiday! We break up today for the half term break and would like to thank you for your ongoing support this term. We wish you a restful week and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 5th June at normal time unless your child is in Year 6.
Year 6 Residential to the IOW: Year 6 children will need to be in school by 8:00am at the latest, on Monday 5th when the coach will arrive to take them to their residential journey to the Isle of Wight. We know they will be wonderful ambassadors of our school and wish them a happy visit where we hope they will make memories to last a life time! Their excitement is already palpable. As always, these opportunities would not be possible if staff were not willing to accompany the children and we thank Miss Slade, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Derodra, Miss Moll and Mrs Deighan, who have all agreed to accompany the children on this visit. Whilst Miss Moll is away, Class 10 will be taught by Miss Fidge (current Year 6 teacher).

World Environmental Day: when we return to school we will be celebrating the ‘World Environment Day’ and Mrs Farr will be leading a whole school assembly for the children to teach them about looking after our amazing planet.

Year 5: on Wednesday, the children in Year 5 will be attending a visit to the Shree Ghanapathy Temple. Parents of children in this year group have been emailed separately about this visit. If you are able to volunteer to help on this visit, please let your child’s teacher know asap. Thank you.

Multiplication Test: the children in Year 4 will soon be taking their statutory Multiplication Tables Check, this is to determine whether or not the children are able to fluently recall their timetables up to 12. Further information for parents is available here:  Multiplication tables check: information for parents (text version) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). If your child would like to practice for this check over the half term break, Sound Check on Timetables Rockstars provides a very similar experience for the children (25 questions with 6 seconds to answer). Log in details have been sent home for this via your child.

Class 1: on Friday 9th June, the children in Class 1 have a Mufti Day (own clothes day). This is a prize that was one in a PTA event.

Lastly, we are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant. Vacancies are advertised on the school website and the closing date is Tuesday 6th June 2023. Please do spread the word!

    Have a lovely break.

    Week beginning 22nd May 2023

They say time flies when you are having fun and here we are with the final week of half term nearly upon us and what a half term, from top accolades in the swimming gala and the mixed football team being top of the league to Ofsted last week (and during SATs week). You couldn’t make it up!

As I sit here writing this, I can hear the bass boom of disco speakers and children’s laughter. Thank you, as ever, to our amazing PTA and parent volunteers who have organised the school disco tonight, for our children this evening. It certainly sounds like the children are having a fantastic time!

Class 6 Assembly: a huge well done to the children in Class 6 who wowed us with their fantastic assembly whilst they took us around the world to other continents. The children shared their Continent song, so we could remember the 7 continents of the world and also told us about the wildlife and issues faced in South America, such as the loss of the Amazon rainforest at an alarming rate. They also taught us about the legend about El Dorado and the searches for long lost treasures.  We were so proud to see all they had learnt and the facts they were able to retrieve and remember. Fantastic job, Class 6 and a massive well done to Miss Headley as well! Thank you also to all the parents who joined this spectacular assembly.

Catering: in an endeavour to ensure that all members of our school community can access our full catering provision offer, as of Monday this week, all meat options available to the children are now certified Halal. We are proud of our commitment to inclusivity and hope that this small change increases the options available to many of our children. This is in line with many food establishments across the UK who are becoming increasingly aware of customers diverse requirements and are adapting their menus accordingly.

Reading: please can we remind families that, in order to support your children to make good progress, our expectation is that they read for at least 10 minutes at home, a minimum of four times a week. Our teachers have raised concerns that there are some families who are rarely completing this aspect of homework which is in place for the whole school.  Please help us to help your children by providing regular opportunities for children to practice and share with you the learning that they have undertaken in school. Practice does not make perfect but it certainly does make progress! Regular reading at home also helps to develop confidence and a love of reading. If your child is a reluctant reader, and you would like some support with this, please do reach out to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to advise. Thank you.

Geography Day: Thursday 25th May is our whole school Geography day. You will have received a separate email about this already from Mrs Boylan, our Geography Leader. The theme of this event is ‘Around the World in 14 classes.’  Each class will be assigned a country and where possible we are asking for food donations that originate from that country for the children to try.  Please can we remind you that items containing nuts are not allowed.  If you are able to donate, please can they be brought to your child’s class teacher on the morning of 25th May. Thank you in anticipation of your support with this event.

Friday 26th May is the last day of this half term, and we finish by inviting you in to an Open Afternoon where you can come in and talk to your child/ren about their learning- from maths to geography! School will be open from 1:45pm. If you wish to join us, please come into your child’s class via the main office and you are welcome to take your child/ren home once you have finished viewing their learning. Summer Term Curriculum Maps (which shows what your child is learning this term), can be accessed on our website by clicking this link.

Class 8: will have their assembly on Thursday 29th June, this will start at 9:10am.

Lastly, some parents have asked us for term dates for next year. We can confirm the dates for the autumn term are as follows:

  • Week beginning 15th May 2023

    Fri 12 May 2023

    Week Beginning 15th May 2023
What a week! As you know, we have had an Ofsted Inspection, Section 5, over the last two days. We will let you know the outcome as soon as are able – there is a confidentiality clause when schools are inspected and it takes up to 30 working days for the report to be published. When it is, we can share our news. Additionally, this week, alongside the Inspection, Year 6 had their SATs! A busy week – well done to our Year 6 children who worked really hard, with resilience. Thank you again.

Monday: KS1 children continue with their SATs and this will continue for the rest of the month, overtime. We are proud of you all as you sit your reading and maths tests and know you will be the best you can be. Remember, we don’t need a test to show how amazing you all are. Likewise, and as above – thank you to all staff who have been part of our lovely Year 2’s educational journey. You are all stars.
Junior Choir starts again on Monday and we will be rehearsing for the Music is Magic concert in June.

Wednesday: Mrs Macmahon will speak to our Year 6s going to Warlingham about transition and I believe she is bringing with her Mrs Bolton who, as you will be aware, also works at Warlingham! We look forward to seeing Mrs Macmahon and Mrs Bolton again!

Thursday: Year 6 have a transition travel workshop in the morning. This is run by TfL Safety and Citizenship and the children will hear about independently travelling to Secondary School, to include travelling safely in the dark.

Friday: is the PTA School Disco, the PTA have sent information about this previously. Further details on the PTA page.

    Have a great weekend!
    The Hayes Team.

    Sat 06 May 2023

Weekly Bulletin: Week Beginning Tuesday 9th May, 2023
    Class 7 Assembly:
what a polished assembly! Class 7 took us on a dynamic journey around the human digestive system and presented their information with enthusiasm, expression and aplomb, Fantastic actors and actresses! Well done all and well done to Mrs Knapman!

Coronation: on Friday, Miss Slade prepared us all with an assembly to celebrate the King’s Coronation to include facts and royal music. The ceremony is now over and what a ceremony it was! Certainly, a day to remember. Did you know that Westminster Abbey has been Britain's coronation church since 1066 and King Charles III will be the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned? As Miss Slade said to the children, ‘I wonder how the King will be able to hold the Sceptres and Orb at the same time?’ Now we know! A new era….
Year 6 SATs: next week, our Year 6s will take their SATs (Statutory Standard Assessment Tests) and have all been working really hard. We know they will be the best they can be. As we have said to them, the tests do not assess what makes them special, amazing and unique. The adults who create the tests and mark them, do not know each of the children the way we do and without doubt, not in the way their families do. They do not know that Year 6 are kind, loyal, patient, wonderful, trustworthy and thoughtful. There is no way to ‘test’ all of the amazing and awesome things that make the children superstars. So….
Don’t get stressed, just do your best. Remember, you’ve been blessed with skills SATs can’t test.

Many thanks to all staff who have taught or supported this cohort from Reception to Year 6, there are many and each one has made a difference on their educational journey and thank you also to our parents and carers for your support along the way!

On Tuesday, Year 6 will be taking the English Grammar Punctuation and Spelling Papers in the morning, on Wednesday, they will take the Reading tests, on Thursday it will be Maths Papers 1 and 2 and finally, on Friday, Maths Paper 3.

Swimming: there will be no swimming next week due to the swimming staff being needed in Year 6. Swimming will resume, week beginning 15th May 2023.

School Uniform: to remind, PE kits (school uniform) should be worn for sport. The only logo on PE kits should be the school one, thank you. A reminder: indoor PE: black shorts, white t shirt (with school logo or plain) and plimsolls. Plain dark jogging bottoms and grey sweatshirt (M&S- logo or no logo) for cold weather and trainers for outdoor PE. Please ensure your child/ren wear the correct uniform for PE and the correct footwear. We do have a supply of plimsolls and school uniform for children to borrow/have if there are any problems purchasing them. Also, a reminder that school shoes should also be worn – black again, no trainers. Thank you!

Have a good rest of Bank Holiday weekend and see you all on Tuesday 9th May.
    Take care,
    The Hayes Team

    Wed 03 May 2023

    Week beginning 1st May 2023

We start this week’s bulletin with a huge well done to the children (and parents) who represented The Hayes in the TCS Mini London Marathon last weekend. 30 children ran the 1-mile race in the glorious sunshine, through the centre of London, finishing on The Mall after running past Buckingham Palace. For each child who crossed the finish line, the London Marathon donated £10 for our school to spend on PE or computing equipment…so £300 in total! Thank you to the parents for bringing your children to this event to enable their participation.

Science Week: we also want to celebrate the amazing achievements of our children last week who took part in ‘Science week’ which was organised brilliantly by Mrs Piamya, our science co-ordinator. All children took part in a fun science work shop with Gooey Stuey and I am sure you will see from the look on their faces, much fun and exciting learning was had by all! Thank you Mrs Piamya!

Bank Holiday, Coronation Celebrations: as you will be aware, Monday is a Bank Holiday and school will be closed. We hope you enjoy another long weekend!

Deaf Awareness Week: this week in school, we are celebrating Deaf Awareness Week. Where we seek to raise the awareness of children of deaf issues, people and culture. We seek to promote the positive aspects of deafness, encouraging social inclusion, and raising awareness of organisations that support those who are deaf.

Year 6 SATs: next week, Year 6 take their statutory SATs tests, from Tuesday-Friday. A letter will go out tomorrow regarding the timetable to Year 6 parents. Good luck to all of Year 6, who have been working really hard and we are super proud of you – the week will soon be over!

Year 2 SATs Month: during the month of May, the children in Year 2 will be taking their statutory assessments (SATS). These will be carried out in small groups but all children will have completed these by the half term break. Good luck, children!

King’s Coronation: tomorrow (Thursday) we shall be celebrating the Kings Coronation and the children are invited to wear red, white and blue clothing to school instead of their usual school clothes. If it is usually your child’s PE day, please ensure their choice of outfit and shoes are suitable for participating in this lesson. There is also a special menu on this day (this has already been emailed to parents) to mark the occasion and there will be a special assembly and opportunities to make a crown.

DISCO: our PTA will be holding a school disco on the 19th May. Tickets available on the PTA events page. The Hayes PTA (pta-events.co.uk) Sales end on the 17th May.

INSET DAY: school is closed to the children for INSET day on Friday 5th May and on Monday 8th May (additional Bank Holiday to mark the Coronation) so please enjoy your extended weekend when it comes.

    All the best,
    The Hayes Team
