  • Week beginning 16th July 2018

    Sun 15 Jul 2018

    WB 16.7.18
On Monday we were treated to the 2nd ‘Music is Magic’ concert (groups). The choirs, percussionists, violinists, rocarinas, ukuleles and orchestra were amazing. We are truly blessed to have such musical talent at The Hayes. Thank you to all of the parents/carers that attended and to Mr Rogers, Mrs Aldren, Mrs Yates and Miss Slade who helped to make it all possible. On Tuesday, we welcomed our new reception intake and parents/carers who will be starting with us in September for a picnic. All had a fun afternoon.

Bugsy Malone came to The Hayes on Wednesday. The Year 6 musical was worthy of the London Palladium and was professional, punchy and mesmerising. An outstanding performance by all children and a huge well done to Ms Spinks, Ms Harman, Mrs Harbour and Mrs Yates who made it all happen.

Year 4 Egyptian Day took place on Thursday, the children and adults looked fabulous, as usual. Year 2 visited the Sealife Centre on Friday, the children had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed their day, thank you to all of our helpers.

    Upcoming:
*Monday 16th July - Class swop 2-3pm (when children find out who their teacher will be for next year).
*Tuesday 17th July - Y6 Leavers assembly, 10am- parents are welcome to attend. 2pm: Y6 BBQ - this is a BBQ for our Y6s only.
*Wednesday 18th July - HT Tea Party; Road Safety video showing- The Hayes are hosting this for eight other schools who have put this together. Well done to our Junior Travel Ambassadors and Mrs Boylan!
*Thursday 19th July - Reception to Bay Pond and class parties.
*Friday 20th July - last day of term, school closes at 1.30pm.

    Goodbye
Unfortunately, it is the time of year when we say goodbye to some members of staff who are moving on to pastures new to face new challenges.

*Mr Ricketts, our Class 6 class teacher has worked at The Hayes since January on a 2-term supply contract. In that short time, he has made a great impact on the children in his care and he will be missed.
*Mrs Cottingham has been a Teaching Assistant at The Hayes for 5 and half years, working mainly in Key Stage One with our infant children. We thank Mrs Cottingham for all she has achieved at The Hayes over this time and wish her well as she changes career completely. Mrs Cottingham is going to train to be a midwife!
*Mrs Page joined us in September on a fixed term contract in Rainforest. Reception is a big step for many children and under her leadership this year; we saw a smooth and happy transition for children and great improvements to the EYFS department. We also thank Mrs Page for leading our School Council.
*Mrs Evison has worked at The Hayes for 5 years in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. We were very grateful to Mrs Evison who stepped in very quickly to cover Ms Smith’s maternity leave in Class 4 whilst she was job sharing with Mrs Lishmund in Class 7. During her time at The Hayes, she has led various areas, including Reading, Key Stage One and the Happy Hayes Patrol. She has always ensured the children in her care receive an exciting learning experience.

We want to say a big thank you to them and wish them the very best for their future adventures.

    Message from the Office
*If you haven't already done so, please ensure you clear any outstanding balances on your child's school dinner money account or wrap around care account prior to the summer holidays. Thank you.
*If you are a parent with a child starting in September, please ensure you return the necessary forms which were in the welcome packs given out at the New Parents Evening last month.
*On Friday, please give your child a carrier bag to bring into school so s/he can take home her/his school books, etc. Many thanks.

School spaces: with some children moving to independent sector schools and several families moving to the coast and away from Croydon, we will have a couple of spaces in September. If you know anyone who is interested in joining The Hayes family then please let them know and ask them in the first instance to contact Croydon Council, Admissions. We need to have a full school in time for the October Census which guarantees our funding. Many thanks.

Parent/Carer Questionnaire: very shortly you will be receiving a link to a parent/carer questionnaire. At The Hayes Primary School we see the relationship between the school and parents/carers as vital in supporting the development of every child. As part of this partnership we would like to hear your views. We will then analyse this information & use it to make improvements wherever we can and many will form our whole school priorities for 2018-19. This information is extremely valuable to us and helps us to make The Hayes Primary School an even better place to be!

Here's to another fabulous week and our final one before our summer holiday!

  • Week beginning 9.7.18

    Sun 08 Jul 2018

    WB 9.7.18
A great week in the sun was had by all last week.

On Monday some of our pupils took part in a Suzuki violins concert. Our violinists performed brilliantly, well done to all. On Tuesday, Year 1 went to Mordan Halls, the children were a shining example and had a thoroughly enjoyable day, thank you to our parent helpers. On Friday we held our Open Afternoon it was great to see so many parent/carers attend.

    This Week:
*Monday 9th July - Music is Magic at in the hall. Children to come to the music room for 5:40pm. Doors open at 5:45pm to start at 6pm. Choirs, Mr Roger’s drumming group, recorders, ocarinas, ukuleles and Mrs Aldren's violin group will be performing and you should have received an email if your child is involved in this. School uniform please: school dress or white school top, school trousers and black shoes.

*Tuesday 10th July - Reception picnic for new pupils starting in September at 1pm (with parents).
*Wednesday 11th July - Year 6 Bugsy Malone musical. Please note that this performance is open to parents/carers, family of our Year 6 children.

Due to England playing in the Semi-Finals, Bugsy will commence at 5:30pm instead of the original time of 6pm. We hope this does not inconvenience anyone and the speech will be very, very short so we can all dash home to watch the start of the match. If any of our pupils are unable to get to school for the earlier 5:30pm start, please do let Miss Slade know (head@hayesprimary.croydon.co.uk) and it is very likely that the 6pm time start will have to resume. It is incredibly important all of our children are in the musical. Unfortunately, the Y6 staff and Senior Leadership team could not find a free evening over the next fortnight, so the date cannot be changed. To conclude – for now the performance will start at 530pm UNLESS Miss Slade hears of any child who cannot make it for this time by the end of tomorrow. Many thanks.

*Thursday 12th July - Year 4 Egyptian Day and Board of Governors meeting (6pm).
*Friday 13th July - Year 2 trip to Sealife Centre.

    Upcoming:
*Monday 16th July - Class swop 2-3pm (when children find out who their teacher will be for next year)
*Tuesday 17th July - Y6 Leavers assembly: 10am- parents are welcome to attend. 2pm: YeaLeavers BBQ - this is a BBQ for our Y6s only.

*Wednesday 18th July – HT Tea Party.
*Thursday 19th July - Reception to Bay Pond and class parties.
*Friday 20th July - Last day of term, school closes at 1.30pm

    Message from the Office
If your child currently attends Wraparound Care Club, you'll shortly be receiving an email asking you to confirm your intention to continue in September. Please reply asap as we would like to offer available places to those joining our school in September. If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you clear any outstanding balances on your child's school dinner money account prior to the summer holidays. Thank you.

At the end of the school day, children (when going home with their parents) are climbing the tree at the bottom of the field. If your child is one of these climbers, can you please ask them not to, thank you. Please keep collecting the Woodcote Green Green Fingered Kids Scheme vouchers and hand in to the office.

If you are a parent with a child starting in September, please ensure you return the necessary forms which were in the welcome packs given out at the New Parents Evening last month.

Thank you to Mrs Harazawa who helped this week with year group swimming. With a busy few weeks ahead and Ms De Cruz off unwell, swimming will return in September. This possibly is not a good time to remind those of you to please pay your swimming donations; however, with £5000 still outstanding, it has meant we could not offer more in terms of Mrs Harazawa’s tuition for class swimming. We simply cannot afford to pay for two teachers at present because we do not have the funding. Contributions do help but of course do not even enable us to break even. We hope Ms De Cruz gets better really soon.

If your child is in Year 4 and has not returned their Soundstart instrument, please can they do so by the end of this week. Thank you.

Photos- the last day for ordering team or class photos is tomorrow (Monday 9th), any late requests will incur a handling charge by the photographer.

Finally, and finishing on an incredibly happy note, massive congratulations to Mr and Mrs Piamya who have had a beautiful baby girl called Maya. We wish them all the best and send much love.

    Here's to another fabulous week.

    WB 2.7.18

A great week in the sun was had by all last week.

On Monday, we were very lucky to have the NSPCC in to deliver workshops on how to keep safe online. Feedback from the parents and children has been valuable and we will definitely be inviting them back in the future. On Thursday, Rainforest class put on their assembly. It was great to see how much they have grown in confidence this year and to listen to what they had being learning. Well  done also to Miss Slade’s ‘Mini Me’, although perhaps a little disconcerting to look at! Sport's Day on Friday was a resounding success, thank you to all those that came along to support the children and a huge thank you to CSSP, Miss Langan and all of our secondary helpers from Oasis Academy who made the day go smoothly.

Our Summer Fair on Saturday was a resounding success, packed full of families, fun and smiling faces. Thank you to the PTA for all their hard work and to all of the volunteers who gave up their time to run stalls. Photos of last week’s events can be seen on our Twitter site.

As you may be aware our swimming teacher Ms DeCruz has been off sick for a couple of weeks.  Next week we have arranged for a swimming teacher to come into school to cover school swimming.  We hope Ms De Cruz will feel much better soon.

Scarlet Fever: a child has recently had Scarlet Fever although I am very pleased to say he is much better now. His symptoms were not ‘usual’ in that he did not have typical red, sandpaper rash. This child had a sore throat and a temperature, much like a cold or hayfever. Scarlet Fever also has these symptoms: headaches, swollen lymph nodes, and a characteristic rash. It most commonly affects children between five and 15 years of age. Please do look for these signs and if your child exhibits the symptoms, take her/him to the Drs as a precaution. If your child has scarlet fever, please keep them away from school for at least 24 hours after starting treatment with antibiotics.

    Here’s to another fabulous week.
