Week beginning 20th June 2022
What a scorcher! On the hottest day of the year so far, we were delighted to welcome home our Year 6s who had the most wonderful time making memories, conquering fears and having fun on their residential at Carroty Wood. They enjoyed a bonfire, balloon fun, high ropes, the swamp, kayaking, archery, abseiling and so much more! Thank you again to the staff who made this happen and you can see photos of their time on our Twitter account. We missed them and are sure you did too.
Sports Day: thank you for all the parents who sent messages of support in relation to our decision to postpone sports day. We can now confirm that the new date for this event will be Friday 8th July and we are keeping everything crossed for some cooler weather! As Year 6 were on their residential, we had organised a separate event for them due to take place on the 28th of June. As we are rearranging this event for the whole school, we would very much like our Year 6 children to be part of the whole school event. With that in mind, we will no longer be running the Year 6 only event scheduled to take place on the 28th June but look forward to them participating with everybody else on the 8th July. Timings for this event will be exactly the same as before, KS2 in the morning and KS1 and Early Years in the afternoon. We apologise again for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you there.
Fathers’ Day Gift Room: thank you to our PTA who, this week, have run the Fathers’ day gift room to ensure that children had an opportunity to choose and wrap a special gift for their Dads or another important person in their life. We thank all of our Dads for the love and support that you give your children and wish you a wonderful day on Sunday.
Walk to School Week: next week is Walk to School week which has been organised by our Junior Travel Ambassadors. We are asking all children to count their steps as they walk to school and there will be a chart to record these in their classrooms each morning. We are also asking the children to look around them as they walk - and use their senses. What can they see, hear smell that they don't normally see when they travel by car? Did they see anything unusual or interesting? This will inspire a piece of art or descriptive writing in their classes during the week. The JTAs will also be launching a traffic cone competition!
Healthy Schools Week: next week is also Healthy Schools Week and the children will be focusing on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. Over the course of the week, all children will take part in a workshop to learn more about healthy food choices with a food scientist. We are excited to welcome her to our school.
Croydon Schools Music Association: on Monday, the children in the Infant choir have their final rehearsal at the Fairfield Halls ahead of their concert on Monday night. They will travel via coach to this rehearsal and will eat their packed lunch on their return. In the evening, the children should meet Mrs Yates and Mr McEvoy to the left of the Box Office (near the bar, to the right of the entrance) at 6.20pm. They should wear their usual school trousers/skirts, black shoes with a red, white or blue PLAIN T-shirt. Tickets are still on sale for this event and can be purchased from the Halls. The event should be finished by 8:15pm and parents/carers should pick up their child in the same place as drop off.
Croydon Athletics: also on Monday, some of our children have qualified to take part in the Croydon Athletics competition where they will compete against other schools in various events. Children participating should be collected from school at 2:45pm to ensure they register at Croydon Sports Arena by 3:30pm. Miss Moll will be at the venue, waiting to meet the children. We wish them all the best of luck.
Croydon Schools Music Association: on Tuesday, the children in the CSMA Junior choir will attend their final rehearsal at Fairfield Halls and will be travelling by coach. They are to bring a packed lunch that they will eat upon return to the school. On Tuesday evening, they should meet Mrs Olley and Mrs Field to the left of the Box Office (near the bar, to the right of the entrance) at 6.30pm to be seated in the choir stalls at 6:45pm. They should wear their usual school trousers/skirts, black shoes with a red, white or blue PLAIN T-shirt. Tickets are still on sale for this event and can be purchased from the Halls. The event should be finished by 9:15pm and parents/carers should pick up their child in the same place as drop off. We thank Mrs Yates for rehearsing the Infant Choir and Miss Slade and Mrs Field for directing the Junior Choir – all children sound fabulous and have worked incredibly hard to learn all of the words – well done choirs!
After School Club: please may we remind parents that there is no Afterschool club provision on Wednesday. This is to ensure that ALL staff can attend training on our new phonics scheme that will be implemented in September.
Cricket Festival: on Friday, some children from Year 5 and 6 will be participating in a Cricket Festival. We thank Miss Moll for organising this event and the Croydon athletics and wish the children the best of luck.
NSPCC Assembly: also on Friday, your children will take part in a special NSPCC assembly as part of the Speak out, Stay Safe programme. You will have already received a newsletter about this event. Please contact the school if you have any questions about this assembly.
Summer Fair: and finally… we are so excited to host our Summer Fair on Saturday 25th June. Please do come along between 12 and 3pm to support the work of our PTA who have worked tirelessly to organise this event. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to help with set up, on a stall or by donating items. We are so grateful and can’t wait to see you there!
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.
