Week beginning 7th October 2024
Week beginning Monday 7th October 2024
We had a wonderful week in school with a fantastic Harvest celebration led by class 11, superb African dance workshops across the school and a visit from Reverend Elizabeth in our Early Years Department. We also had some great successes with many of our junior children representing The Hayes in an interschool cross country competition. Congratulations to Chloe for qualifying for district level events and to all those who took part for representing our school so well. We also celebrated a 3rd place achievement in an interschool philosophy competition, well done Frank!
On Monday we are celebrating grandparent’s day and welcome Grandparents (x2 max) to pop into school for the last part of the day. Grandparents can visit their grandchildren in the classrooms and hopefully share a book with them. This event is similar to our open afternoons. We will have some year 6 helpers available to show our visitors to their grandchildren’s classrooms. If your child will be going home with their grandparents, and this is not the usual arrangement, please ensure that you have notified the school or your child will not be released. Please do not worry if your child does not have a grandparent visiting, there will be staff on hand to share a book with them and help them to complete some fun activities.
On Tuesday we are hosting our first Reception open morning for parents of children due to start school in September 2025. If this applies to you, or you have friends/relatives looking for a primary school place, please do let them know. Future opportunities to visit will take place on 4th November (9:30am) and on the 27th November in the evening (6:00pm) for working parents. If you would like to attend one of our open events please do make sure that you register using the following link. Reception Open Mornings | The Hayes Primary School
On Wednesday 9th, the children in class 12 will be leading their class assembly about kindness. If you have a child in this class and wish to attend, we would love to see you there. Please join us in the school hall for a 9:10am start.
Also on Wednesday, the boys football team have their first match against Rowdown. This is an away match after school. We wish the team the best of luck and know they will ‘be the best we can be!’ If your child is not playing in this match, there will not be training as the coach will be at the match but they are welcome to go along and watch their team mates if they would like to show thier support.
Thursday is World Mental Health Day and we will be celebrating this with a Hello Yellow event. The children can wear an item of yellow clothing with their uniform for a recommended donation of £1 on Parentpay.
On Friday we have our school discos. Reception will have a mini disco in class at the end of the day (no change of clothes required). The year 1 and 2 event is between 3:30-4:30 (children can bring a change of clothes to school), Year 3 and 4 event is 4:45-5:45 and Year 5 and 6 is between 6:00 and 7:00pm. The children should come in via the main office and will be dismissed from their classroom doors if they are in years 1 and 2, the reception exit if they are in Year 3 and 4 and the main office if they are in Years 5 and 6. This is a ticketed event. Please do not send your child if you have not purchased a ticket. The children in KS2 may wish to bring money for the tuck shop.
Lastly, we are coming into coughs and colds seasons and as you can imagine, we get through a huge quantity of tissues in school at this time of year. If you are able to, we kindly ask parents to help us by donating a box of tissues for your child’s class. This helps us keep everybody safe and well and minimise the spread of germs during the winter months. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend.
