Week Beginning 30th January, 2023
Well done to Class 10 for their wonderful assembly on Wednesday. They performed with confidence in front of KS2 and many parents and were amazing! We were all educated about mountains (Geography focus)- did you know that the highest point of a mountain is called a summit or a peak, the tallest mountain in the world is Mount Everest and the highest mountain in the UK is Ben Nevis, reaching an elevation of 4,406 feet? If you want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, you need to make sure you need to wrap up (it is cold at the top) and be careful because you need to acclimatise to the altitude because then, you will be less fatigued! Well done to Class 10, Miss Moll and Mrs Field – a great assembly, with much learning!
Mixed Football Club: a huge well done to our mixed football team who this week, played two matches, fantastically! On Wednesday, they beat Oakwood 4-1 and on Thursday 26th, they beat Oasis Byron 8-1. BIG WINS! Well done to our team – amazing results, we are all incredibly proud of you!
CSMA Junior Choir: to inform parents of a change of rehearsal venue (making it easier for us!), the rehearsal on Thursday 9th February (130-330pm) which was at St Nicholas school is now in our school hall. Please collect from The Hayes, at 330pm. Monday’s rehearsals will continue, as usual.
Swimming: at The Hayes, we consider ourselves to be extremely fortunate to have our own swimming pool on site and as you are aware, we offer all children a fortnightly, forty-minute swimming lesson with a qualified swimming instructor and assistant, who we employ directly. As reported, heating the pool has increased by 180% and we are finding it increasingly difficult to fund. Therefore, if you have not paid £55 or anything towards this cost, please can we encourage you to do so. It can be paid overtime, as well. Thank you!
Atom Prime: thank you for your feedback on our online homework platform. Although we will still subscribe to this platform, Y3-5 will be giving out other homework and will not be using it, and Y6 will continue to set homework on the platform, alongside other work.
The PTA: school disco will be held on Friday 24th February with a slight change to the advertised times sent out via class reps:
*Reception and Years 1 & 2: 3.30 - 4.30pm. A snack and drink will be provided.
*Years 3 & 4: 4.45 - 5.45pm.
*Years 5 & 6: 6.00 - 7.00pm.
A tuck shop will be available for both junior discos and you can buy tickets from: https://www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes/index.cfm#.Y9QKiuSnwlQ until Monday 20th February at 10pm. Further information will be sent nearer the time.
What Is On This Week?
National Story Telling week: we love to share a book at The Hayes and this week is a celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy, they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills. Click on this link to access many resources you can access at home.
Safer Internet Day 2023: is coming up on Tuesday 7th February. It is centred around conversations with its theme ‘Want to talk about it?’ It’s never too early or too late to start an online safety conversation and keep it going. Please click on this link to see tips from Internet Matters, to support your child’s digital journey. Over this next week, our friends from 3Discovery (@ThreeDiscovery) will deliver ESafety workshops across the school and will also present in assembly on Monday. We are looking forward to it!
Tuesday: there will be a Carroty Wood meeting for Year 5 parents, to take place in Class 9. There will be a creche available if you have children that need childcare for the duration of the meeting.
Thursday: we look forward to Class 4’s assembly starting at 9:10am. Parents and carers of Class 4, we look forward to seeing you, we know this is going to be a great assembly!
Friday: the Infant choir will be rehearsing at St.Marys Catholic School, Croydon from 1:30-2:55pm. Please note, in the spring term, the choir rehearses for a performance at the Fairfield Hall – to be part of a massed choir with other Croydon infant children. They will be travelling via public transport, and should return back to Kenley station for 3:40pm (letter to follow on Monday). We will require parent helpers for this to take place, please email the office if you can help on this day. More than 50+ children signed up and the CSMA choir is limited to 30 children because of the numbers allowed to take part. Therefore, the first spaces will go to children in Y2 and then Mrs Sinclair will audition children from Y1 (in a fun way!). Letter to follow!
Have a great rest of the weekend.
