Week beginning 23rd June 2025
Week beginning Monday 23rd June 2025
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at our Summer Fair last week. It was a huge success and raised approximately £4,500 (final amount to be confirmed as soon as possible) to spend on the children in our school. We extend an extra special thank you to all those who helped with the planning of this event, as well as those who assisted on the day with setting up, running stalls, and clearing away. We could not have managed without your support.
Our PTA is looking for new members and would love to hear from anyone who thinks they could spare some time. Please speak to any existing PTA members to find out more about how you can get involved.
On Monday, we will be joined in school by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), who will be leading workshops with all children about water safety. As many families prepare for summer holidays, we hope these sessions will provide important reminders about how to stay safe around water, building on the in-school water safety lessons delivered by Miss Browne.
Next week, the Croydon Schools’ Athletics Competition will take place at Croydon Sports Arena for children in KS2. If your child has been selected to participate, you will have already been notified. The boys’ heats are on Monday, 23rd June; the girls’ heats are on Wednesday, 25th June; and, for those who qualify, the finals will be held on Friday, 27th June. Participating children should meet Mr. McEvoy at the venue. There is a small charge for spectators, payable in advance — details have been emailed to you. Good luck to our athletics team! Be the best you can be!
On Tuesday, 24th June, there will be a Year 4 Soundstart concert in the school hall, which parents are invited to attend. The Year 4 children will proudly showcase what they have learned in their Soundstart music lessons this year. Please join us in the school hall at 2:20 pm. Children in Year 3 will also be invited to this concert to get a preview of what they will be learning next year. We would like to thank Ms. Bird and Mr. Shepherd for their hard work in preparing our children for this event.
Over the coming weeks, we will be hosting a range of science workshops to inspire children’s scientific enquiry and passion for investigation. This week, Year 4 and Year 3 will participate in workshops on 25th June.
We are also excited to host our “Music is Magic” concert on Thursday, 26th June, starting at 6:00 pm. This fantastic event provides many of our children who have been learning to play an instrument with the opportunity to perform. You will have been notified by your child's music teacher if they have been selected. The Junior Choir will also be performing. If your child is participating, please ensure they bring their instrument to school on Thursday, as there will be a rehearsal with accompaniment. Children participating should arrive by no later than 5:45 pm, in school uniform, to take their seats. We look forward to seeing you there!
Weather permitting, Friday, 27th June, will be Sports Day, with Key Stage 2 events in the morning and KS1 in the afternoon. Children are encouraged to wear their team colours as part of their PE kit — plain black shorts and a T-shirt in their team colours are permitted. We kindly ask parents to refrain from joining in with the children’s events and to support and encourage from the sidelines. Water will be available from the PTA at a cost of £1 per bottle (donation to the honesty box), and all children will receive an ice pole to stay cool, courtesy of the PTA. First aid will be available at the scoring desk if needed. Thank you.
With the recent warmer weather, we’d like to share some sun safety reminders to keep everyone safe. Please ensure that your child applies a suitable long-lasting (8-hour) sun cream before school, wears a named sun hat for protection, and brings their water bottle, which they can refill from our water coolers around the school. Additional gazebos have been set up to provide shaded areas, and children have the option to visit the indoor Calm Club if the playground becomes too uncomfortable during lunch.
We have also received increasing concerns from residents about unsafe parking and dangerous driving within our community. We share their concerns and urge all parents to leave home with plenty of time to avoid rushing, park safely without blocking residents’ driveways, and ensure children cross roads carefully when arriving at school. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you’ve traveled through Purley this week, you may have noticed the trees adorned with purple knitting. We are fortunate to have the South East Cancer Help Centre nearby, which 'paints Purley purple' each year to raise awareness of the support available for those affected by cancer. New members can access up to 12 free one-to-one support sessions, including counselling and therapy, as well as support groups, exercise classes, and social activities in their first year. With NHS services under pressure, this local centre provides vital support, offering a space to talk, tools to manage anxiety, and a sense of community. If you or someone you know needs support, please contact them at 020 8668 0974.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Have a great weekend!
