Week Beginning 30th September 2024
What a wonderful week of poetry we have had! With our visit from the acclaimed poet, Simon Mole, our children were inspired to write and perform some of their own poems. The children showed great enthusiasm, co-operation and team work alongside creativity and imagination. Thank you to Mrs Farr, our reading lead, for organising this event and to our PTA for funding our visitor. His workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all!
Yesterday, we also celebrated the European Day of Languages. Our MfL co-ordinator, Mrs Burbearry, led a wonderful assembly celebrating the diversity and multiculturalism that is present in our school. Thank you to all of the children who were confident enough to share some of your home languages in school. Being bilingual is an AMAZING skill and we love celebrating this talent in our students.
Next week, our school photographers are joining us on Monday morning to take individual and sibling (in school siblings only) photographs. All children should be wearing their full school uniform for this occasion please. If they usually have PE on a Monday, they can bring their trainers in their school bags. Thank you.
On Tuesday, we launch our Black History Month celebrations with African Dance workshops for all children. Thanks to our generous PTA for funding this enrichment activity. Look out for photos on the school website soon.
On Wednesday, class 11 will be leading our Harvest Festival Assembly. If you have a child in this class and would like to join us for this event, please do come along. The event will be in the school hall and will start at 9:10. Thank you so much for your generous donations of food and toiletries. We will continue to accept donations until Tuesday 1st for those of you still hoping to contribute. All donations will be sent to The Purley Food Hub to support local families facing hardship.
On Friday, we welcome Reverend Elizabeth into school. She will be visiting our reception classes to talk about Harvest. We are also celebrating ‘World Teacher Day’. We are thankful to our wonderful teaching staff for all that they do to help our children learn and grow.
You will be pleased to know that the parts needed to repair our swimming pool were delivered yesterday and installation began immediately. With works still underway, we are hopeful that swimming lessons will be able to resume as normal from Tuesday next week. If this is not be the case for any reason, we shall let you know on Monday afternoon. Thank you again for your understanding and patience during these works.
A note from the PTA…
It's Disco time again at The Hayes for children in years 1-6. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday 28th September at 10am and sales will close at 9pm on Wednesday 9th October. You can buy your tickets here https://www.pta-events.co.uk/thehayes/.
3.30 - 4.30pm years 1&2 - children will get changed in class and be brought straight to the all. They can be collected from their classroom doors.
4.45-5.45pm years 3&4 - children will be dropped off at the main entrance and picked up from the reception classroom doors.
6.00-7.00 pm years 5&6 - children will be dropped off and collected at the main entrance.
Children in years 1&2 will receive a drink and biscuit at the disco. You may wish to send a small, healthy snack in for them to eat before the disco starts.
There will be a tuck shop available for children in years 3,4,5 and 6 with snacks and drinks available from 50p to £1. Hot dogs will also be available but they must be ordered and paid for online when you buy your ticket. Children will then be able to collect their hot dog from the tuck shop at their disco.
As our reception children have just started school they will have a mini disco with their class teacher in their classroom during the day on Friday 11th. There is no charge for this and no need to send in any change of clothes or snacks.
The PTA would also like to let you know that they are recruiting. They are looking for a new treasurer (this could be split into a book keeping/spreadsheets role and a banker role to manage floats for events and bank transactions) If you feel you have the skill set needed and would like to volunteer your time, please drop the PTA an email on thehayespta@gmail.com. They would also like to hear from you if you wish to join the PTA in any other capacity- perhaps you may wish to volunteer to help at the discos?
Thank you as always for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend
