Week beginning 15th July 2024

We start this week’s bulletin with a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the children who participated in the Croydon interschool maths competition last week. I am delighted to announce that The Hayes primary school were the winners of the prestigious cup demonstrating that we have some of the best mathematicians in the borough! Well done Team Hayes, especially the children who represented us in this event! We are very proud of you.

I would also like to update you on the profit from the Summer Fair. Thank you to all those who attended and supported this event. It is looking as though the event has raised in excess of £4000 for the children in our school. What an amazing achievement. THANK YOU to all but especially the PTA who put hours of hard work into making this event such a success.

Next week, the children in Year 6 will be showing their production of the School-O-Vision Song Contest to parents and carers in the hall on Monday night at 6pm.  All children involved must arrive at 5:30 please to change into costumes and get ready for the performance. We will open doors to parents and carers at 5:40 so that you can come in and take your seats whilst we wait for the performance to begin. Due to the number of children involved in this production, each family can use a maximum of 2 seats in the hall. Smaller children (younger siblings) may sit on a parent’s lap but please do not allow older children to do this as it is likely to block the view of other spectators sitting behind. If there is space remaining, we will allow additional spectators to stand at the back of the hall.  As always, please can we remind you that any photographs taken during this performance are for personal use only and should not be shared on social media unless you have consent from the parents of any other child in the photograph.

Reception children will have a visual screening in school next week either on the 17th or the 18th of July. If the team identify any concerns with your children’s vision, they will contact you directly.

On Friday, the children will have the opportunity to meet their teachers for the next academic year when we do a class swap for an hour after their morning break time. The list of classes and staffing arrangements will be sent to you via email on the same day.

Your child will also be given their annual report to take home on this day so please do ensure you check their bags. If your child has undertaken any statutory assessments this year including the Early Years Profile, the Year one phonics screening check, Year 2 phonics screening check retakes, Year 4 Multiplication Check and Year 6 SATS, your children’s results will also be included with the reports.

If your child is on a pupil passport for SEND support, a copy of their transition passport will be included in the envelope along with their report.  Please can we ask you to sign and return the parent acknowledgement slip to show that you have received the report.

I would like to congratulate the children in year 6. This week we received the results of their statutory assessments and I can confirm that results in all subjects are above national averages and, in some cases, are showing as much as a 10% improvement on our school’s results from last year.  Well done Year 6! We are very proud of you.

Next week is the last swimming lessons for the year. There will be no swimming for any children on the final 3 days of school.  There will be no afterschool club on Wednesday the 24th July as we break up at the earlier time of 1:30.

Your children will bring home their school books on Monday 22nd July. We would be very grateful if you could provide them with a carrier bag/ reusable bag to take these home before next Monday. Thank you.

Finally, we are all looking forward to it COMING HOME on Sunday! Many children have told us that they would like to watch the match on Sunday night and we know this means they may be up a little later than their usual bed times. School will be opening on Monday morning at normal time however, we will be keeping registration open until 9:30 to give some leeway for those who may be a little sleepier than normal! GOOD LUCK ENGLAND!

Thank you as always for your ongoing support. Have a great weekend.
