Week beginning 4th January 2019

Week Beginning 4th February.

We look forward to seeing many of our children tonight at the PTA Discos/Fun Afternoon. Please can we remind all parents that children should enter the school for their event via the main office so they can be signed in. They should be collected from the side doors to the hall in the staff car park where they will be signed out. Thank you to our PTA for organising this fun event.

In November we took part in the borough competition ‘Brighten your bag’.  All children designed a bag that was bright, reflective and that would help them to be seen in the dark winter months.  An entry from KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2 were sent to Croydon to be judged.  19 schools took part and there were around 90 entries received from these schools.  30 of these designs were shortlisted for final judging. Gracie, Class 9 was one of these 30 children who were shortlisted. She will receive a certificate and hi-vis bag - well done!  We look forward to presenting these to Gracie when they arrive.

On Tuesday we have a special Chinese New Year Menu to celebrate this special event. The children can have sweet and sour chicken or vegetable spring rolls served with steamed vegetable rice and oriental mixed vegetables. Pudding will be Orange Drizzle Cake! This year is the year of the pig!

On Tuesday this week we are recognising the National Safer Internet Day. All children will receive an e-safety workshop (either Monday or Tuesday) led by Bigfoot Arts Education. Key Stage 2 will have a focus on Cyber Safety and Key Stage One will meet Boo the Bunny who learns to surf safely on the internet. For our youngest children in Safari and Rainforest Miss Booth will be leading e-safety workshops. Our huge thanks go to Miss Booth our computing lead for organising this event and to our fabulous PTA for funding it. Please can we remind all parents to regularly review the privacy settings on your computers, tablets and phones and monitor your children’s online activity. Many of the games that children like to play can pose risks to children and young people if they are not carefully monitored by an adult. I am sure many of you may have seen the recent articles in the newspapers outlining how vulnerable our children can be particularly in games where they can play on line with strangers. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6598919/Warning-parents-predator-grooms-schoolchildren-hit-game-Fortnite.html

Please be vigilant.

On Tuesday, David from the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership (CSSP) will be leading gymnastics sessions with our Year One children in the morning and dance sessions with Year Five in the afternoon. After school we will be holding a meeting for parents of children in Year 5 children who will be attending a Carroty Wood. There will be childcare available for younger school age siblings if this is required. On Wednesday, Class 4 will be leading our class assembly, if your child is in this class please join us in the school hall at 9:10 for this event. On Thursday, David (CSSP) is back in school, this time to work with Year 3 on Gymnastics in the morning and with Reception Children in Motor Skills in the afternoon.

Finally on Friday, we wish our football team good luck in their AWAY match against Kenley. #Bethebestyoucanbe!

Have a wonderful weekend!
