Week beginning 14th January 2019

Week Beginning Monday 14th January 2019

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a restful break and a great start to the year.

From tomorrow (Monday), we will be hosting our termly coffee mornings in the hall from 9-930am (ish). This is your chance to hear from your children’s teachers about what is coming up this term. The dates for these meetings are as advertised (in the bulletin and Important Dates) and are as follows:

Monday 14th January: Reception

Tuesday 15th January: Year 1

Wednesday 16th January: Year 2

Thursday 17th January: Year 3

Friday 18th January: Year 4

Monday 21st January Year 5

Tuesday 22nd January: Year 6

On Monday, the school nurse is joining us in assembly to talk to the children about the importance of brushing their teeth and general dental care. Tuesday 15th is the closing date for primary school admissions. Please ensure applications are submitted on time. Thursday 17th January is school census day and therefore there is a change of menu. This is an important day for schools because an element of our funding is set for the year based on the number of children taking up school dinners. Please do encourage your children to have a school lunch on this day. The options are attached in this email. On Friday 18th, we wish our football team good luck in their match against Christchurch. Friday is Year 6’s IPC Entry Point and dress up day: what will humans evolve to look like in the future? (Giant brains, robotic limbs, etc), good luck!

Saturday 19th January is our sponsored swim at Croydon High School for Years 3-6, letters have already gone out to those participating in this. Additionally, the link to start your sponsors is here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/the-hayes-primary-pool We will be raising funds for our pool – the general up keep and maintenance, which I am sure you can all appreciate it significant.

Also coming up is our History Week (week beginning 21.1.18) – our focus during this week is going to be our local environment. The children will be taking part in workshops provided by Kenley Aerodrome, looking at local famous people, music from the past as well as dance. We will finish our week with a dress up day on Friday 25th January when children and adults will be asked to come to school dressed as someone from History, ie: Queen Victoria, a Roman (toga), Caveman/woman, Chimney Sweep, Cleopatra, Crusader, Knight, Victorian child, Tudor child, evacuee, etc etc.

If your child has been selected for this year’s Swimming Gala taking place at Purley Pools on 24th January, you will be receiving a confirmation letter with full details of the arrangements. Please note, this is not the sponsored event on Saturday.

On Friday 1st February, the PTA will be holding their school disco. Tickets will go on sale on Monday 14th January from the following link:

With the census day next week, we would like to ensure our records are up to date and children who are entitles to receive free school meals (FSM) are receiving the correct entitlement. The following criteria enables your child to receive FSM is you are on:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals. If your child is eligible for free school meals, they’ll remain eligible until they finish the phase of schooling (primary or secondary) they’re in on 31 March 2022.

Your child would have had an application form in their bookbags on Friday, please complete and place the completed form in the box marked “FSM” in the school office as soon as possible. If you are eligible you will be notified in letter from Croydon Council.

Here's to a great week.
