Week Beginning 13th October 2014

We start the week with our special Harvest assembly led by Mrs Spinks’ class.  If your child is in Class 10 and you would like to join us, the assembly will start at 9.15am on Monday 13th October.   We are sorry that we cannot accommodate any more parents at this event due to limited space in the hall.

We would like to thank you all for your very generous harvest donations! We will be delighted to present boxes of goods to The Purley Food hub that helps people in crisis in Croydon.  Your kindness will no doubt be much appreciated by many in need especially during the cold winter months that lie ahead!  If you have forgotten to bring a donation and still wish to bring something along to school, please do so on Monday 13th October.

Also on Monday our football team are playing a match against Kenley primary school here at The Hayes after school.  We wish them all the very best of luck.

As our Year 6 parents know, on Wednesday 15th October Year 6 have a special Viking day in school.  They will be visited by a Viking, Thorulf Hammrson, from ‘portals to the past.’ They will learn all about life as a Viking, their weapons, armour and invasion through games, fun activities and even a battle re-enactment!  If your child is in Year 6 and wishes to dress up for this event there are simple costume ideas on Fronter.  I’m sure they will have a fantastic day, experiencing more about life long ago through first-hand experience!  Thank you for your donations towards this fantastic day.

On Thursday 16th October and Friday 17th October members of the PTA will be working with the children across the school to design their Christmas cards for this year.  We thank them for their hard work in supporting the school.

Also on Thursday our Year 3/4 children are taking part in their cross country finals at Lloyd park after school.  We wish them all the best of luck and thank Mr Blundell for his hard work in organising such a super range of sports activities for the children.  Please refer to your earlier letter from Mr Blundell with details about collection for this event.

This week we begin the tours of The Hayes for prospective parents of Reception starters 2015.  This year we will be involving groups of children in a virtual tour using our new ipads, which sounds like an ingenious way to find out all about life at The Hayes.

On Friday 17th October Class 5 will be leading our whole school assembly .  If you have a child in Mrs Taylors class please do join us in the hall at 10.15am.  We are really looking forward to seeing their performance.

Also on Friday our tag rugby team will be participating in an event at Old Whitgiftian’s Rugby club during the afternoon.  We wish them all the best and hope they enjoy their afternoon.

After school on Friday our drama club will begin at 3.15-4.00.  The first two sessions are taster sessions to see if your child enjoys themselves, however after the half term we require full attendance as parts will be allocated for their first performance.

May we remind you that as we are a healthy school, all Key Stage 2 children are allowed to bring in a piece of fruit each day as a mid-morning snack or they may purchase a healthy snack from Eden at a cost of £0.50.   The children in FS and KS1 do get fruit provided each day.    May we remind you that the KS2 children should NOT be bringing in cereal bars or such like, it is only a piece of fruit or a vegatable from home that is acceptable.  If your child would like to bring in a full water bottle to drink in class they may do so but please ensure that this has a ‘sports cap’ top so spillages over children’s work are reduced!  Thank you for your co-operation.
